My ggrandfather was a Civil War veteran from Jefferson County , NY. He enlisted at
Sackets Harbor. He had been living in Pentwater, Michigan, when news from the war
needing soldiers came. He rode his horse back to New York and enlisted.
After the war , he received land for service, and came to Michigan.
He named the land "Branch" Michigan. He built a "Barnett House" there. The
railroad went through there. He had a store, postoffice and hotel. His name was Benjamin
F. Barnett, Sgt, and he married Sarah (Sally) Allen from Pamelia, New York. His brother's name was Hiram Barnett.
He was wounded three times
during the war, and later migrated to Wisconsin.
I would be interested in any information you might have on him.
