PIONEER BROWN FAMILY



1. EBENEZER BROWN (son of JOSIAH & KEZIAH (---) BROWN was born April 7, 1752 in Killingly, Conn. He served as a private in the Revolutionary War, enlisting in Conn in 1776 in Capt. Stillwell's Co., Col Jedediah Huntinton's 20th Conn Regiment, and was in the Battle of White Plains. He again enlisted July 8, 1781 as a private in Capt. Benton's 7th Co., Col. Isaac Sherman's 5th Conn. Regiment and was in skirmishes at Morrisiana and other places and was discharged Dec 21, 1783 at West Point.

He moved from Killingly, Conn. to Granville, Washington Co., NY by 1788, to Adams, NY in 1800/1, and finally to Lorraine in 1806. Ebenezer died January 3, 1833 ae. 82 yrs. (g.s.) in Lorraine and is buried at Rural Cem., Lorraine.

He married on March 26, 1775 at the Putnam Congregational Church, Killingly, Conn.
MOLLY REDWAY on March 26, 1775 at the Putnam Congregational Church, Killingly, Conn.; she is daughter of JAMES & MEHITABLE (BLISS) REDWAY and was born Aug. 7, 1750 in Rehoboth, Mass. She died December 28, 1832 ae. 82 yrs. (g.s.) in town of Lorraine, N.Y. and is buried in the Rural Cemetery, Lorraine, next to Ebenezer.

4. AARON BROWN (son of EBENEZER & MOLLY (REDWAY) BROWN) was born August 19, 1784 in Killingly, Conn. He moved with his parents to Granville, NY. He later moved to Sandy Creek, Oswego Co. NY. In 1800 he came to the town of Adams and in 1805 settled in Lorraine where at one time he owned an estimated 2,000 acres of land. At various times he operated a grist mill, a sawmill, had a distilling and a store in Lorraine. In 1830 he was NYS assemblyman. He also served as town clerk, commissioner of highways, and justice of the peace. He was a principle in helping to form the Lorraine Baptist Church. Aaron died May 9, 1870 in Lorraine and is buried at Rural Cemetery, Lorraine.

He married on Feb. 1, 1810 in Lorraine, NY
BETSEY BURPEE, the daughter of EBENEZER & ELIZABETH (WESTON) BURPEE. Betsey was born Feb. 18, 1791 in Jaffrey, New Hampshire and died Nov 17, 1878 in Lorraine, NY.

5. PARLEY BROWN (son of EBENEZER & MOLLY (REDWAY) BROWN) was born Dec. 4, 1788 in Granville, NY. He came to Lorraine in 1805 with his parents. He served in the War of 1812 in Capt. Elisha Allen's Co., Col. Clark Allen's 55th Regiment NYV Militia. He graduated from Madison University (now Colgate College) in 1823. He became a Baptist minister and farmer. He removed to Philadelphia NY where he was an Abolitionist and active supporter of the Underground Railroad. Parley died Mar 17, 1870 in Philadelphia NY. and is buried in Sandy Hollow Cemetery, Philadelphia New York.

He married on 29 Sep 1824 in Denmark, Lewis Co., NY
SUBMIT FARWELL, the daughter of SOLOMON & SABINA (BURLINGAME) FARWELL. SUBMIT was born May 24, 1800 in Mt. Holly.

10. WALTER R. BROWN, (son of EBENEZER & MOLLY (REDWAY) BROWN) was born in 1792 in Granville, NY and came with his family to Lorraine in 1805.

He married
ABIGAIL RISLEY, daughter of JEREMIAH & LUCY (ARNOLD) ) Risley. She was born Feb. 2, 1796 and died Dec. 18, 1862 in Lorraine.

Children: all born in Lorraine
