PIONEER BURNS FAMILY

1.  THOMAS BURNS was born in Easky, Co. Sligo, Ireland 22 Dec 1787.  Thomas and his family migrated to Watertown, 
Jefferson County NY in 1849 to join his children Patrick and Margaret who had arrived earlier.  Thomas and his wife lived
with their son Patrick at 35 (now 741) Gotham Street.  He died 15 Oct 1867 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery, Watertown. 

He married

MARY FLYNN who was born 1794 in Templeboy, Co. Sligo, Ireland. She died 26 Sept 1867 and was buried in 
Calvary Cemetery.

5.  PATRICK BURNS was born 17 Mar 1824 in Easky, Co. Sligo, Ireland. He crossed to Quebec with his sister Margaret
(later Mrs Thomas Haley) in 1847 and was living on Beebees Island by 1849.  In 1852 he purchased land from 
Orville Brainard on Gotham Street where he lived at No. 741 until his death.  After they settled in Watertown 
the rest of the family arrived (1849)--parents and half a dozen siblings. They pretty much populated the current 
700 block of Gotham Street.  Patrick was a stonemason and contractor.  Watertown streets were named after 
the Haley and Ward families.  An earlier Burns Avenue off Factory Street, where the family had rental properties
 and maintained offices for its construction business, has disappeared.

During the 1850s and 60s Patrick, John, and Thomas had a grocers store at 28 Court Street, in addition to
 the construction/contractor enterprise. PATRICK BURNS died 3 Apr 1902 and is buried in Calvary 
cemetery, Watertown.

He married

MARY KINNEY who was born in Evans Mills 27 Jan 1837.  She died 29 Apr 1901
