In the probate records of Jefferson County, NY, it was on October 10, 1835, that Benjamin Bemis and James Gallea petitioned to open probate on the estate of William Gallea. They stated that William died in September of 1829 and left no will. Under the heirs and next of kin was daughter, Almira Pool, wife of David Pool of Ellisburgh; she died 1858 and is buried in the Gallea Cemetery.

In the statement, Benjamin Bemis stated that he married the widow of William Galley about four years ago and her name was Dimmis. The letter was dated 21 October 1834.That letter was also signed by James Gallea. On the same date, Dimmis wrote to the court and stated that she renounced her rights and asked that those rights be granted to her present husband, Benjamin Bemis, and her son, James Gallea.
