1. BENJAMIN COLE Jr (son of BENJAMIN and SQUCIE (FONES) (PLACE) COLE was born on 18 Nov 1751 in North Kingstown, RI. BENJAMIN COLE, Jr. moved with his family from North Kingstown to Washington Co., N.Y. in 1794 and settled near Hebron. He was a wheelwright by trade, and remained in Washington County for some twenty years. In 1814, BENJAMIN moved to Jefferson County, NY and settled on a farm north of the Town of Adams, near Honeyville. Benjamin and Martha joined the Honeyville Church of Christ, by letter, in 1829. He was blind for many years, and finally had to give up farming, and he and Martha went to live with their son Joseph and his wife Fanny, on a farm near Smithville. On 21 August 1832, Benjamin Cole, then residing in Jefferson County, NY, made application in the Town of Adams for a pension based on his service performed in the Revolutionary War. He died on 26 Oct 1839 in Adams. He is apparently buried in Hebron, Washington Co., NY, however, or possibly a stone was erected in his memory when his wife died there some two years later. No grave marker is found for him in Jefferson County. The Washington County, NY markers for Benjamin and his wife are in the Grimes Hill (Smith) Cemetery, north of Hebron. He married on 18 Nov 1783 in North Kingstown, RI "Patty" PATIENCE MARTHA WIGHTMAN, who was the daughter of VALENTINE and REBECCA (JAMAIN) WIGHTMAN. MARTHA WHITMAN, as she came to be known, was born on 15 May 1759 in North Kingstown, RI. She died on 21 Dec 1841 in Hebron, Washington Co., NY. Children, COLE: 2 i WHITMAN "Whit" VALENTINE COLE married (1) HANNAH DEWEY; (2) WEALTHY CORY WICKS/WEEKS 3 ii SUSANNAH COLE married SETH DUELL + 4 iii POLLY COLE 5 iv REBECCA COLE married CHRISTOPHER SMITH 6 v SAMUEL COLE 7 vi MARTHA COLE 8 vii BETSEY COLE 9 viii JOSEPH COLE 10 ix SALLY COLE 4. Polly COLE was born on 11 Feb 1789 probably in North Kingstown, RI. She died on 23 Sep 1859. She married on 25 Feb 1808 in Hebron, Washington County, NY. DAVID DEWEY who was born on 31 Dec 1786 in Hartford, Washington County, NY. He died on 7 Feb 1827 in Adams, Jefferson County. He was a farmer in Warren County, NY. He moved to Washington Co. in 1813; then in June, 1825, to Adams, Jefferson, NY. Children: 11 i ELEAZER DEWEY 12 ii JOEL DEWEY 13 iii MARIA DEWEY 14 iv HIRAM DEWEY , Hon. 15 v REBECCA DEWEY 16 vi POLLY DEWEY 17 vii DAVID JESSE DEWEY 18 viii BENJAMIN WHITMAN DEWEY She married (2) JAMES JENKINS who was born on 6 Dec 1785 and died on 26 Aug 1876.
