JOHN GRAY

Union Soldier - Distinguished Service

John Gray was born in 1835 in Clyde, Wayne County, N. Y., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gray, who a few years previously had come to the United States from Edinburg, Scotland. After spending his early life near Redwood, NY, he enlisted at the age of 28 years on the 28 December 1863 in Brownville, NY.

He served in the Civil War in Co. K., 6th N. Y. H. A., and was honorably discharged 23 July 1865. In 1866 they came to Clayton, NY.

He married Nancy, daughter of Lodowick and Julia (Suits) Dillon, of Alexandria, and their children were Frederick, Nettie, George, Richard, Edith and Burton.

He died 24 December 1915 in Clayton, NY.
