William Irwin

Union Soldier - Deserted

William Irwin was born in 1831 and at the age of 31, living in Hounsfield, inlisted in the 10th N. Y. Horse Artillery Company F at Alexandria on August 12, 1862 and deserted August 21, 1862.

In the Watertown Daily News & Reformer of September 5, 1862 was the following notice:

HEADQUARTERS ARTILLERY REGlMENT

MADISON BARRACKS,

Sackets Harbor, N. Y., August 30,1862.

DESERTERS

ELIAS PRATT, a private in Co. K, deserted this Regiment on the 26th inst.; also WM. IRWIN of Co. K deserted on the 21st inst. Both had lived in the town of Alexandria at the time of enlistment

PRATT is 5 feet; 7 inches high, has blue eyes, light hair, light complexion.

IRWIN is 5 feet; 8 1/2 inches high, has black eyes, dark hair, dark complexion.

The usual reward will be paid for the apprehension and return of either or both of these men at Headquarters, or to the Sheriff of this county.
