Theodore H. Ivory

Union Soldier - Distinguished Service

At 21 years of age,Theodore H. Ivory enlisted 19 August 1864 at Syracuse for a period of one year. He was mustered in on the same day, as a private in Co. D of the 10th Heavy Artillery. He joined Co. Sept 10, 1864, deserted en route from Harper's Ferry to Winchester, VA Sept 28, 1864. Surrendered himself March 20, 1865 to Prov. Marshall at Syracuse, NY. He was a substitute for Chas. G. Nye, Onondaga, NY. He was transferred in June 1865, as a private, to Battln. "F" unpon consolidation of Regt.

Although the NYArchives record stated that he was born in Canada, Sharon Ivory avers that he was born and raised in the town of Henderson, as was his first cousin, Horace D. Ivory.Theodore was a life long resident of Jefferson County, NY. He was a farmer, 5 feet 4 1/2 inches tall, with blue eyes, dark hair and a light complexion.
