Byron Parsons

Union Soldier - Distinguished Service

Byron Parsons was born in 1836 and at the age of 25 on October 16,1861 in Ellisburg, inlisted in the 94th NY Volunteer Infantry Company A for 3 years. By the battle of Gettysburg, he was a Captain. He was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, July 1st, 1863. Parsons survived only to be captured later at Weldon Railroad, serving time as a prisoner of war at Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia, from Jan. 1, 1864 to October 14, 1865. Byron Parson survived Gettysburg, one of the costliest of battles for the N.Y. 94th and rose to the rank of major. He died in 1935.
