Ezekiel Speidel enlisted at Pamelia at the age of 21 in the 94th New York Volunteers Company B on October 31, 1861. He was mustered out on December 31, 1864.
VETERAN OF 94TH INFANTRY PASSES AWAY IN ROME
EZEKIEL SPEIDEL OF ROME ENLISTED AT SACKETS HARBOR
Rome. April 4--Ezekiel Speidel, 78, died at his home, 630 West Liberty street, at 9 Friday evening. He was born in Germany, coming to America at the age of 16. He enlisted at Sackets Harbor at the age of 21 in the 94th New York Volunteers. Thirty years ago Mr. Speidel came to Rome. Six children survive.
He was a member of tbe Turn Verein, Rome Lodge, F. and A. M.; Rome Saengerbund and the German-Americanbund.
Mr Speidel resided at Lafargeville, Jefferson county at the breaking out of the war and enlisted in Company B, 94th Infantry, under Capt. Lansing Snell. The regiment was in the First corps earlier in the war and took part in the battles of Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. After the battle of Cold Harbor in June, 1864, the regiment was attached to the Sixth corps and took part in the campaign about Petersburg and Richmond. It was one of the last regiments mustered out of the army of the Potomac.
