HIRAM WALLACE

Union Soldier - Distinguished Service

Hiram Wallace was born in Pillar Point, NY, in 1833, and at the age of 28 enlisted in the 94th N. Y. Volunteer Infantry, Company K, at Brownville, NY, on January 12, 1862. He was honorably discharged March 10, 1863. He attained rank of Sergeant. Hiram died February 3, 1914 in Chaumont, NY.

H. Wallace, Passes Away at Chaumont

(Special to The Times) Chaumont, February 3 -- Hiram Wallace, aged 80 years, a veteran of the Civil war died at his home in this village at 9:30 this morning after a long period of failing health. Mr. Wallace suffered a stroke and paralysis two years ago and for the last year had been made helpless.

Mr. Wallace was born on Pillar Point, a son of Mr. and Mrs. David Wallace. He spent his entire life there and up until twenty-four years ago when he came to this village. He was married to Miss Maria Clark sixty years ago. Mr. Wallace died about two years ago. Mr. Wallace enlisted in Company K, 94th New York Infantry and was discharged with the rank of sergeant.

He is survived by one son, Sherman, with whom he made his home and four grandsons.
