Davis Sewing Machine Migration

Here is a partial list of Watertown residents who moved from Watertown to Dayton, Ohio, in January and Februarey of 1890. These individuals and families were employees of the Davis Sewing Machine Company which moved to Dayton at that time.

This list consists of individuals who moved in two groups. The first group left on January 13, 1890, and the second group followed on February 24, 1890. There may have been other groups before and after those dates, since various articles state that between 500 and 1,000 people may have made the move.

If anyone finds additional names, please share with Mike (kennedmr@siscom.net) and with the website. One possible source of more names may possibly be an article written by James F. Pappa, former mayor of Watertown, March 1, 1924 for the Watertown Daily Times. If anyone has a copy or photocopy, I would appreciate getting any names.

A local article here mentioned that some people did return to Watertown because of the floods in Dayton (1913?)
