BARNETT

Eileen Truesdell Tue, 03 Feb 1998 08:37:56
I am researching ELIZABETH BARNETT for the town of Gananoque. She was instrumental in stopping a raid on the town in 1836. She was born in Depauville, NY in 1815 d/o John Barnett & Abigail Rhodes. She was a school teacher and came to Gananoque in 1830. Her people lived in LaFargeville around 1835. I also have a record that states she was born in Stone Mills NY. ELIZABETH BARNETT DAY is planned for February 21, 1998, so a prompt reply would be nice. I would like an exact birthdate if I could possibly get it.
Thanks for your help, Eileen

REMINGTON

Allan L. Plucinik Mon, 19 Jan 1998 19:41:05
I've been viewing the Child's Gazeteer for Lorraine. You have a family sketch of Jonathan Remington and his family. I'm desperately looking for a birth date for Jonathan. The sketch says he came from Rhode Island and settled in Lorraine in 1803. I have information on a Jonathan Remington born in Rhode Island with an extensive lineage going back to the 1500s. I need some kind of documentation on the Jefferson county Jonathan that would show he is the same Jonathan I've found in Rhode Island.
Can you help me at all. Some kind of census data with year of birth would really help. I would appreciate anything you can provide. Thank you.

FULLER, BEST

Sharon K. Merren Mon, 9 Feb 1998 22:20:34
I am trying to locate any information on my Great Grandfather, William Burton FULLER. He was supposed to be born either at Watertown or Sackets Harbor, New York. I have for his birthdate March 14, 1858, but I am not sure if this is right. He married Martha BEST, in the State of Michigan, March 11, 1882. I have no idea who could have been his parents, brothers or sisters. I have heard rumors that family members may have moved to Wisconsin. Heard of a Fayette FULLER, also possibly a Freeman or Freedom FULLER. I have found a Freeman FULLER living in Jefferson Co., N.Y., in 1830-1855. Can't seem to locate him in 1860. I am trying to learn if this could possibly be William's father. William also used the first names of Bert, Burton, Albert and Bertrand FULLER.
I'd appreciate any help on finding information on my Great Grandfather William B. FULLER. Marriage and Death records list no parents.
Thank-You and God Bless!!!

PATTERSON

Carol Tue, 27 Jan 1998 14:04:30
Would you have any suggestions on where I can find information about JONATHAN PATTERSON? He was in the 1820 census at Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co. NY. He served in the Rev. War and was collecting a pension. His birth date is approx. 1740. I have written to the Nat'l Archives, hoping they would have a record on when his pension was stopped, but all they sent me was records regarding the transfer of his pension from the state of VT to NY. I have written to the New York State Library and the public library, but have had response as yet. If you would have any suggestions on where else I can look for information, I would appreciate it deeply, as I'm running out of ideas. On the internet, it states that the New York State branch of the DAR has records of all Rev. War vets that died and are buried in NY.
Where could I write to, to find if they have any record?
Thank you for your time.

RICE

Sue Marks Sun, 1 Feb 1998 21:52:45
I am trying to help my sister locate her husband's family. His mother is living in a nursing home and has had Ahlshiemers for many years. He is trying to verify a story that she was a twin. Her name was Marjorie Rice and he thinks her twin was Michael. When they were 15 in 1935 or 36 the twins and two friends were walking on the railroad tracks in Watertown and either playing chicken with the trains or just goofing around and Michael was killed. My brother in law sent for his birth certificate a few years ago to go on a cruise and he had a different last name and a different birth date. He had to go to court to officially change his name to the name he grew up with. What a surprise, but she can't tell them anything and her family would never talk about it. Can you find anything about this accident in the Watertown papers and get me names of Michael's and Marjorie's parents so I can do some research for them?
Thanks.
I appreciate any help you can give me.

BUCKLIN

Richard Anderson Wed, 18 Feb 1998 14:17:09
I understand that JOHN BUCKLIN Sr. (1754-1828) m. LEAH CAPRON SCOTT , left a home in Pamelia or Phiadelphia to one of his sons ALDEN BUCKLIN SR. (1780-1873) m. #1 MERCY KETCHUM and #2 PHILINDA BARNS (widow of his brother JOHN Jr..). 1820 Census shows ALDEN in Le Ray, and I believe he was Supervisor and Assessor in Phiadelphia in 1822. Another son, DAVID WALDO BUCKLIN (about 1784 - 1848) m. ELEANOR MITCHEL lived on the "Big Bend, Black River" and was admitted to the bar at Watertown 1810, and was "Speaker of the House at Albany in 1829". Does anyone know anything about these people?

Alden BUCKLIN (1780-1873) shown in LeRay in 1820 Census. Family letter says he was Assessor and Supervisor in Watertown 1822. "Early Settlers" show him Philadelphia. Father's will shows his house in Pamelia left to Alden. He left his wife (MERCY KETCHUM) and went to "help" his brother JOHN COLE's widow, and never came back...I think later he was in Herkimer Co for a while, and perhaps in St. Lawerence Co., and later died in OH! Anyone have anything on him?

SHELEY, TEACHOUT

Dave Simonds Wed, 18 Feb 1998 23:06:38
John SHELEY was born ca. 1784, probably in New York state or (less likely) in New England. He died in March 1873 in the Town of Clayton (Jefferson) NY. On 27 May 1807 he married Catherine TEACHOUT in Danube (Montgomery) NY. He was a veteran of the War of 1812, serving about 3 months in 1814 at Plattsburgh, NY. I am seeking the ancestry of both John and Catherine. Both surnames have many variations. SHELEY may be seen as SHEELY, SHEELEY, SHIELE, and many other forms. TEACHOUT may be seen as anything from TIETSOORT to TITSWORTH. John and Catherine's children were:

Phebe (1809) m. James SPAULSBURY
Caroline m. _____ DAVIS
Mary Ann m. _____ WELDON

SNOW

Janice Deney Tue, 20 Jan 1998 22:01:04
Is this the same JOHN SNOW listed in the book "Indian Affairs, Laws and Treaties," complied by Chas J. Kappler on page 513, 514 ??? (that is listed in Early Jefferson County???) He is listed as one of the ten chiefs witnessing a treaty. The reason I ask is that there are also listed on page 514 other Indians of the Orchard Party with a Abraham Denny, Lewis Denny, Martin Denny and Baptiste Denny. All this info was regarding a treaty done in the years 1838 and 1839. I am looking for information on my Denny Line, so I went to the Local Main Branch here in Tacoma Washington and got my hands on Kappler's book, and now I am really wondering where else to look.
I did find a Joseph Denney (aka-different spellings) listed on a 1830 Census of Watertown with a male child falling into the catagory of 10 to 15 years that My John Deney/Denny could fit nicely but I have no proof. How can I verify this ?? Where are children's names listed - JUST WILLS?? I can't even find John's Birthplace??!!
I've been checking death notices more than anything, can't seem to find birth nor marriages of this stupid Denny family. But if it does lead into Indian roots - where do I go then??
Many thanks, Janice Deney

DUEL, SIRSEN

Rick Hall Tue, 13 Jan 1998 23:09:31
I have been searching many years for a family called Duel who was living in Jefferson county around 1830. The head of the family was William Duel his wife's name was Myra Sirsen also may have been called Almyra. A son, George R Duel was born in May of 1830 in Sterlingville NY according to his death certificate and Civil War records. Some records may indicate a Philadelphia NY where he might have lived. At any rate I am unable to find a Sterlingville NY that was in Jefferson county. I think the town was located where the current Fort Drum is located. Everywhere I look is a dead end. I was thinking of flying out to Watertown and doing research but I want to make sure I have exhausted any search avenues I have left remotely. Where do I start? Does Sterlingville or Philadelphia records exist? Is there someone who would be willing to do some research for a fee? I there someone I can contact to get me started on finding this family? Thanks for your attention. If you are not in a position to assist me regarding this note, is it possible to pass this to someone who can. Thank you!
