BOWE

Ginny Crawford 20 Jun 1999
Now I am working on ELIJAH BOWE, who does have a Depauville connection. He was born on 14 July 1792 - probably in Connecticut. He married Sally LAWTON, don't know when. She was born on 22 Aug 1796 in Rhode Island and died on 24 Nov 1880 in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
Elijah BOWE died in Depauville on 25 Sept 1861 and is buried in the Depauville Cemetery.
The daughter of Elijah BOWE and Sally LAWTON, Helen Melissa BOWE, was born on 13 Nov 1839 in Lyme, Jefferson Co., NY -- AND -- she was married to Newton Baxter HALL on 17 Jan 1861, also in Depauville.
I have run these names on FTM, LDS, and a number of other likely places - with no result. I am hopeful that the historians of Jefferson County will have them pegged and can help me. I will appreciate any assistance or counsel.

BUSSELL

Larry Lachance 5 Jul 1999
I am seeking information pertaining to the following individual: BUSSELL, John Hotchkiss
Born: 5 Aug 1826.
Place: Champion, Jefferson, New York
Father: Charles Hopkins BUSSELL
Mother: Susan Jones STARR
I have little information to go on. What I do know is that they should be "Quaker" and they should have left Jefferson County to move to New York City...from at least 1850 to 1880, the Bussells were proprietors of a thriving lumber/mahagony business in NYC.
John H. BUSSELL appears in the roles of Civil War draftees who committed money to have a substitute in his place. He also appears in the 1870 Census of New York County with wife "Eliza" and family.
A Richard Bussell appears along with Edward Bussell in the same census AND in the lumber business...not sure if they are related.
I have information leading me to believe he was from a family of 10 children.
If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please contact me via e-mail

CONLEY

Larry Conley 5 Jul 1999
The 1855 census for Carlton, Orleans County, New York states that a Solomon Conley (1821-1902) came from Jefferson County or at least through Jefferson County. Parents were John and Elizabeth Conley. The 1865 census shows Solomon as coming from Canada. Elizabeth Conley (age 60) shows up in the 1850 census for Carlton as a mother-in-law to Williard Holman and living with him and his wife Eliabeth (24, Canada). Any indications of a Solomon Conley living in Jefferson County?

COOLEY

Wayne Cooley 5 Jul 1999
Levi Clark COOLEY (b abt 1823-4) was my g-g-grndfthr and I am stumped as to a confirmation of his birth and parents. I know he was adopted along with Loiza Elizabeth by Eliz.(Cooley) Wallace who was a sister to Asa Cooley who moved to Rodman NY in 1804-5. I have numerous vitals on various members of Asa Cooley's children and their children. I think that possibly Loring (Loren) (son of Asa) who m Charlotte Bullock might be the parents of Levi and Loiza. Charlotte died in 1826 at 23 yrs of age and maybe the young Levi and Loiza were sent to Somers CT to live with Eliz. (Cooley) Wallace. I have written to the town clerk of Rodman and she was very helpful and sent much appreciated info but she had no vitals for births (only deaths). Levi died in 1881 in Somers CT. Any info would be wonderful or places to search or contact for info would also be appreciated. Thank You

Certainly I know every little: She was b. 1819 May 1 in LeRay, Jefferson County, NY, and d. 1888 January 17, in Grinnell, Poweshiek County, Iowa. She was daughter of noble Quaker and state legislator Joel Haworth. But who was Mr. MacDonald ? And did she have offspring? BACON, PERRIGO, VALLIERE

Reid Olson 20 Jun 1999
The David BACON family is listed in the 1840, 1850 and 1860 censuses with "PERRIGO" as the surname. The 1855 NY and from 1870 on, lists them as BACON. Various marriage and death certs give BACON as the name. The Bacons lived initially in the Lyme area and then later in the Cape Vincent area. PORTRAIT

Shirley Farone 13 Jun 1999
PORTRAIT - Watertown Antique Circuit
Within the past two years an oval, framed portrait of my husband's great-grandfather was sold to an antique dealer in Watertown.
It was sold from a Willow Street home and most likely it would have been re-sold because of its oval frame. He was a man of Italian descent who died at the age of 27, father of three girls -- it is possible that he was uniformed in WWI military attire. If anyone knows of its whereabouts, I would be eternally grateful for any leads. There is indication that it might have been or is in the Chaumont area. Thank you for your help.
