ALGUIRE

Candice Alguire Hensler Sun Sep 28 08:55:22 1997
Looking for any information on a Charles ALGUIRE (b. abt 1865 in probably the Cornwall area in Canada; died abt. 1950 in Massena, New York) Charles married to Jane Kline (b. abt 1865-1870 in Cornwall, Canada; died May 10, 1958 in Watertown, Jefferson Co., New York). Charles and Jane lived at Watertown, NY and had three children: Elias C. Alguire (b. 1889, d. 1944, m. Freida Littlefield), Frank B. Alguire (b. April 14, 1891, d. September 1973, m. Blanche J. Deline, lived in Watertown, NY and had 3 children) (Frank B. Alguire was my Great-grandfather), Gertrude Alguire (b. & d. unknown, m. William St. Amour). Charles Alguire left his wife when his three children were young. They heard nothing from him for years so Jane obtained a divorce and later re-married to John O'Brien. In about 1950 Charles was ill and dying at a hospital in Massena, St. Lawrence Co., New York). Someone came to Watertown and summoned his 2 children still living; Gertrude refused to go but Frank Alguire did go to see his dying natural father. (My grandfather is Ralph Edward Alguire, son of Frank, b. June 3, 1913, d. April 28, 1995, m. Ruth N. Holness; they had 3 children, their son Richard is my father) We believe that possibly Charles had a second family in the Massena, NY area and there seems to be a few ALGUIREs listed in the phone directory. Please contact me with any ALGUIRE info. that I may use to find Charles' parents. Thank you.

The youngest Freeborn BAKER, the third by that name, served in the Civil War. Palmer BAKER also named a son Freeborn.

CAMPBELL

Chrystopher Spicer Tue, 22 Jul 1997 17:07:22
For some time now I have been involved with a project locating Civil War veterans' families and graves who came out to Australia after that event.
I thought you might be interested to know that I've located the grave of Major James Brown CAMPBELL whose family were very early pioneers in the Pamelia/Watertown area. He emigrated from Scotland in 1833, went to live in Pamelia soon after with relatives and was granted US citizenship in 1853 at the Jefferson County Courthouse. His relatives may have been either, or both, Ebenezer and Alexander CAMPBELL. In 1862 he enrolled at Sacketts Harbor in the 10th New York Artillery and fought for the duration of the war.
He later moved to Chicago to join his family but apparently died alone here in Melbourne in 1905. I've been attempting to find any relatives of the family for a while just to let them know what happened to a member of their family but without success. I would be interested in hearing if you're aware of any CAMPBELLS still in area.
best wishes....Chrystopher Spicer

CAULKINS, CALKINS

Robert D. Caulkins Mon Aug 4 17:52:31 1997
In 1848, in a letter of administration from the Surrogate's Court of Jefferson County, New York, to John CAULKINS of Lorraine Township, New York, there is made mention of several of Joel CAULKINS' (John's father) grown children. One of these children is named Isaac and is recorded as being a resident of Genesee, New York.
My Great great great grandfather is, according to the records that I have been able assemble, Isaac CA(U)LKINS, who was married to Sarah PETTIS of Boston or Charlestown, Massachusetts. Isaac and Sarah CA(U)LKINS had several children, one of which might have been Joseph D. (DISBROW?) CA(U)LKINS, who is in my direct line of descendency.
Can anyone help me connect Joseph D. CA(U)LKINS to Isaac CA(U)LKINS, I've been trying for 20 years without success.

DORR - HAGAN/HAGEN - SCHELL - SNELL

Dave Simonds Sat Sep 13 13:03:11 1997
Charles J. DORR was born 21 Oct 1882 in Ft. Bidwall, Surprise Valley, CA. His biological parents were Mr. and Mrs. Anson SPAULDSBURY. He was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Henry DORR (of Jefferson County, New York). He died 11 Jul 1964 in Alexandria Bay, Jefferson Co., NY. On 2 Apr 1925, he married Emma Frieda VOGT in Redwood, NY.
I wish to know which Mr. and Mrs. Henry DORR the adoptive parents were, as there were several Henry DORRS in Jefferson County. Were they Henry and Margaret (PILGER) DORR, or Henry and Mary (HOTIS) DORR? Or some other couple? Apparently certain DORR, SCHELL and SNELL families of Jefferson County all had connections to my HAGAN/HAGEN family, as they were all at a HAGAN/HAGEN family reunion held ca. 1930. While they are not on my direct lines, I am interested in tracking down the relationships.
Any assistance will be much appreciated.

EVANS

Faith Lustik Sun, 13 Jul 1997 17:00:07
Researching EVANS family who came from NH to Jefferson County. Eldad and Betsy (Storing) Evans had Benjamin, George, john, Thomas, Ethni, Samuel, Belisant, and Lybeus. George and John were twins born July, 4, 1799. George was married three times and lived in St. Lawrence County, specifically the Fine area. He died in 1893. I am interested in George's children and their descendents. My great grandmother, Anna (b. 1883), was adopted by Ida Demmon and Benjamin Jones. Her biological family was Evans, Jones, and Farley in Fine, NY. With most conventional ways of solving her parentage, I am in the process of eliminating the Evans descendents from being her possible parents.

LIVERMORE, PLANTY

GENE Tue, 15 Jul 1997 21:03:52 EST
On December 29, 1975, a Mr. Richard H. Planty Sr. of Box I46 or 146, Chaumont wrote the following note to my Dad's cousin, Jennie Livermore, in Watertown:
"I have an old Bible which I found in a box of books I got at an auction. It has the family records of the Livermore and Warren family, only one death. Solomon Livermore born Feb 10, 1762 died July 12, 1849....If you are interested in this Bible, I will gladly stop up with it for free. It is of nop use to me."
This is my direct line. I tried calling through the information operator, but she had no listing of Richard Planty. Obviously, I would love to have the Bible. Can anyone help me? Solomon and his wife Louise or Lois Warren lived in Hounsfield. Anything you can do to help me locate this precious heirloom will be deeply appreciated. I feel certain that Jennie never responded to Mr. Planty's note, and she died 4 Aug 1991 in Watertown. Mr Planty's note was found by Jennie's niece, Alice Schulz of Richmond, Va. who is quite a genealogist in her own right.
Thanks for your help.
