1. PHINEAS KEITH was born March 26, 1761 in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. He was a direct descendant of JAMES KEITH, who was born 1643 in Scotland, and who was the first ordained minister to serve in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. PHINEAS KEITH died March 16, 1832 in Henderson, Jefferson County, New York.

PHINEAS KEITH served in the American Revolution in Colonel Nathan Tyler's Third Regiment in Worcester, Massachusetts and in Rhode Island in 1780, marching to Tiverton on the alarm of July 27, 1780. The sources for the information regarding the military service include Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, 17 vols. The information for PHINEAS KEITH can be found in Volume 9, page 39. PHINEAS KEITH named one of his children FLEURY after the French volunteer in the American Revolution, Francois Louis Tesseidre de Fleury, who was a significant fighter in Rhode Island. PHINEAS KEITH migrated from Rhode Island to Jefferson county, NY in the early 1800s.

He married on July 1, 1780, in Glocester, Providence, Rhode Island

LEVINA SALISBURY, daughter of EDWARD SALISBURY and ABIGAIL HAWKINS. LEVINA SALISBURY was born January 11, 1760 in Rhode Island, and died October 1, 1828 in Henderson, Jefferson County, New York.

2. FLEURY KEITH, son of PHINEAS KEITH and LEVINA SALISBURY, was born June 4, 1785 in Smithfield, Rhode Island. FLEURY KEITH and his brothers and sisters came from Rhode Island to Jefferson County with their parents after the family lived for a time in Pittstown, Albany County, New York, where the family is documented in the census, and possibly for a short time in Skaneateles. FLEURY KEITH died September 17, 1850 in Brownville, Jefferson County, New York.

He married PAMELIA STAPLES on January 3, 1808. She was born on April 24, 1786 in Massachusetts to parents ISAAC STAPLES and ESTHER BENSON, and died March 14, 1867 in Brownville, Jefferson County, New York. FLEURY KEITH served as an Assemblyman to the State of New York Legislature for three terms during the years 1829, 1831, and 1848.

FLEURY KEITH and PAMELIA STAPLES had ten children. The dates of their births are taken from the family Bible record.

     3   i MADISON KEITH was born May 3, 1809 in Henderson, Jefferson County, New York. He died September 26, 1845 in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. He married MARY PECK.    

     4  ii    PAMELIA ANN KEITH was born November 25, 1810 in Smithville, Jefferson County, New York, and died March 2, 1849 in Berrien County, Michigan. She married HENRY (HARRY) HARRINGTON.

     5   iii    HENRY S. KEITH was born April 3, 1812 in Smithville, Jefferson County, New York. He married first MARY ANN BOGART who died in 1840 and second PHILENA LEVALLEY.

     6  iv    LOUISA MARIE KEITH was born February 27, 1814, and died April 20, 1832.

     7   v    LEVINA SALISBURY KEITH was born October 15, 1815 and died May 1844. She married CHARLES P. PLUMB.

     8  vi    HARRIET HELEN KEITH was born December 29, 1817 in Jefferson County, New York, and died December 14, 1895 in Cape Vincent, Jefferson County, New York. She married first JOHN KEELER ADAMS and second WILLIAM ESTES.

     9   vii    MARY MCNEIL KEITH was born November 11, 1819 in Jefferson County, New York, and died February 2, 1850. She married HARRISON COLE.

    10  viii    FLEURY FAYETTE KEITH was born October 10, 1821, and died in 1899 in San Jose, California. He married ELIZABETH COLLINS. He went to California in 1850 during the Gold Rush. He later lived in Terre Haute, Indiana, working as a grain broker, and finally returned to California where he owned fruit orchards. His record of his overland journey to California in the Gold Rush can be found transcribed and also scanned online in The Brigham Young University, Harold B. Lee Library collection "Trails of Hope: Overland Diaries and Letters, 1849-1867"

    11  ix    MINERVA EVALINE KEITH was born August 3, 1825 in Jefferson County, New York, and died August 29, 1887 in Keeler, Van Buren County, Michigan. She married GEORGE BARTHOLOMEW.

    12  x    RUFUS WILLARD KEITH was born November 23, 1827 in Henderson, Jefferson County, New York. He married RUBY LEAVITT who was born June 5, 1830 in Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York. He died November 8, 1911 in Lafargeville, Jefferson County, New York. RUFUS WILLARD KEITH remained on the family farm originally owned by his father FLEURY KEITH for many years.

Children (2) KEITH:

    13  i    RUBY KEITH, born February 1 1854 in Brownville, Jefferson County, New York, and who later married CORTLAND BROWN

    14  ii    CORA KEITH, born in Brownville on August 15 1859. CORA married JOHN ALEXANDER MORRISON.
