BENJAMIN NICHOLS was born 1 Jan 1835 in Jefferson Co., NY, son of ANDREW (2 April 1806 - 13 May 1891) and CORDELIA (HOLCOMB) NICHOLS. They married in 1830. BENJAMIN'S paternal grandfather, DAVID NICHOLS was born in Claverack, NY about 1780 and emigrated to Jefferson Co. during the first decade of the 1800s. He died in 1830 at Cape Vincent, Jefferson Co., NY. DAVID NICHOLS married JERUSHA SPINNING. He was in the War of 1812 and served as an ammunition charger.

BENJAMIN'S maternal grandfather was SULLIVAN HOLCOMB, born 1776 in Guilford, CT and who emigrated to Cape Vincent, Jefferson County, NY where he resided until his death. He was a farmer by occupation but served as a soldier in the War of 1812 and was captured in the Battle of Lundy's Lane. SULLIVAN HOLCOMB married ABIGAIL LEE, daughter of SETH LEE. They had one son and four daughters. SETH HOLCOMB, their son, located in Jefferson Co., NY. He was born 1806 in Chautauqua Co, NY and married CORDELIA HOLCOMB.

BENJAMIN NICHOLS married JANE A. TAYLOR on 10 Nov. 1856. She was the daughter of ELI TAYLOR.

IRA C. NICHOLS was born 16 March 1840 at Clayton, Jefferson Co., NY, son of ANDREW and CORDELIA (HOLCOMB) NICHOLS. IRA spent the first 22 years in Clayton, NY and in 1862 enlisted for the Civil War, where he served three years and four months. He married in July 1867 to SALINA ABBEY of Clayton, NY, daughter of SAMUEL ABBEY.

JESSE BENJAMIN was born 28 October 1758 and served in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. After the Revolutionary War ended he married (at West Point, NY) on 29 Sept 1783 to RACHEL BUNN, of Dutchess Co., NY, and fathered 13 children. RACHEL was born 20 May 1766, the daughter of REUBEN and RACHEL (PLACE) BUNN. JESSE died in Jefferson Co. NY on 6 Sept. 1851 at age 93 and is buried in the Clayton Village Cemetery. RACHEL died at East Martinsburgh NY on 27 Feb 1843. JESSE is in the DAR Patriot Index, with wife RACHEL BUNN.

JESSE was listed in the 1820 census of Jefferson with 3 male children under 10 and one female child under ten. At that time he was living at Hounsfield, in Jefferson County.

Marriage bond #34 of New Jersey:

REUBEN BUNN and EDWARD FITZSIMMONS (bound to) LEWIS MORRIS, Governor, 500 pounds 18 June 1744. REUBEN BUNN obtained a license of marriage for himself and for RACHEL PLACE of Woodbridge, spinster. (Their daughter, RACHEL BUNN, married JESSE BENJAMIN)
