ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON RESIDENTS:

GEORGE N. SEYMOUR, b Springfield, VT on 14 April 1794. In 1808 at age 14 he was in Ogdensburg and was bound out to the firm of Rosseel & Lewis, Merchants. At the age of 23 in 1818, he married Miss SOPHIA MARY, daughter of LOUIS and SARAH de VILLERS, of Wilna, Jefferson County. Her father was a native of Abbeville, France and descended from an ancient and respectable family; was in the service of Louis XVI as lieutenant in the Battalion Vermandois, a corps composing a party of the Royal Guards, and stationed most of the time at Paris. He was transferred to the regiment serving in America under Gen. Rochambeau, and came to this country about the close of the Revolutionary War, with Count Le Ray de Chaumont, for the purpose of joining the allies. Her father first came to Trenton, afterwards to Cooperstown, thence to Butternuts, NY where he married Miss SARAH KINNEY of Connecticut birth. It was at Butternuts that Miss Sophia Mary de Villers was born on 19 October 1797. Durant & Peirce, p. 191

WM. JONES was born in Jefferson County, May 30, 1816, eldest son of SOLOMON and SALLY JONES, the former of New England birth, the latter born in Canada. For his first wife in 1845 he married Miss FANNIE MOORE and she died in 1850. He married second in 1853 to Miss ELIZABETH FACKRELL, daughter of John and Jane Clements Fackrell. William died 1 January 1871.

JORAM TIMERMAN was the son of FREDERICK and MARY TIMERMAN, who was one of the original settlers of Manheim, Herkimer Co., NY. Joram was born there on 28 Jan. 1829. In February 1834 his parents removed to Jefferson Co. On 2 October 1851 Joram married Miss HARRIET LOUCKS, daughter of GEORGE and MARY LOUCKS, of Orleans, Jefferson Co., NY. In 1853 they moved to Potsdam.

ELON G. GARDNER descended from a Revolutionary hero, his grandfather having been a soldier of Bunker Hill. His father, SAMUEL GARDNER, was born in Rhode Island in 1789, and participated in the battle of Sacket's Harbor during the War of 1812. His mother was MERCY OLIN. His parents settled in Camillus Onondaga Co., NY in 1807; moved to Lewis County in 1825 and to Jefferson County in 1857. Elon was born in Camillus on 15 Nov. 1822; on 1 January 1851 he married CAROLINE DOANE of DeKalb and had several children.
