PIONEER OATMAN FAMILY


 
1.  Captain BENJAMIN OATMAN (son of GEORGE and RUTH (WOOSTER)
OATMAN) was born 1755 in Ripton CT.  He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. 
He settled on a farm at Adams Center in Jefferson County in 1807.   BENJAMIN
OATMAN died 3 Jan or 1 Mar 1816 at Adams Center, aged 60 years, and was buried
in the Honeyville Cemetery there.

He married

BETHIA SMITH who died 28 Feb 1848 aged 93 years and is buried in the Honeyville
Cemetery with her husband.

4.  ASAHEL OATMAN, (son of Captain BENJAMIN and BETHIA (SMITH)
OATMAN) was born 8 Feb 1784 at Hartford, Washington County NY.  He settled in
Jefferson County, possibly Brownville.  He was a farmer, hunter and trapper, 
and was said to have made considerably money selling venison in Albany.  
He died 1 Dec 1856 aged 72 years.

He married 

SARAH (---), who was born 7 Nov 1783 and died 11 Jun 1853 aged 70 years.

9.  TRUMAN OATMAN (son of Captain BENJAMIN and BETHIA (SMITH)
OATMAN) was born 1787, reportedly in Jefferson County.  The family settled 
at Adams Center.  He served in the War of 1812, and died 20 Mar 1843 at the 
age of 56 years.

He married 

ORRA PERRY who was born 1790 and died 22 Nov 1861 at the age of 71 years.

10. ELIJAH OATMAN, (son of Captain BENJAMIN and BETHIA (SMITH) OATMAN)
was born 29 Aug 1778.  He served in the War of 1812 as shown from a claim 
for $33.00 which he submitted for military clothing and equipment used in 
the service.  He died 29 Jan 1860 aged 81 years, and was buried in the 
Honeyville Cemetery.

He married (1)

POLLY HORTH, (daughter of FRANCIS and LUCY (DIXON) HORTH) who was born
1785.  She died 30 Jul 1824 at the age of 39 years.

11. ELIAS OATMAN, (son of Captain BENJAMIN and BETHIA (SMITH) OATMAN)
was born 1799 Washington County NY.  He died 13 Jul 1884 aged 85 at 
Adams Center and was buried at Adams State Road Cemetery.

He married 1820

ELIZA BUNCE, (daughter of THEODORE and JEMIMA (BARBER) BUNCE.  She was
born 12 Dec 1801 and died 20 Dec 1896 aged 94 at Adams Center and was buried at
Adams State Road Cemetery
