PIONEER PATCH FAMILY

1. WILLIAM PATCH (son of EPHRAIM & SARAH (CRAM) PATCH) was born 19 May
1811 at Johnson, Vermont. In Little's "History of Weare, NH" we find that
Brother William Patch was brought before the church (1st or 3rd Free Will Baptist)
for "the crime of swapping horses on the Sabbath." Brother Patch asked forgiveness
of "his crime", and the church voted to forgive him and again take him into
fellowship after he had made acknowledgement to the person with whom he
committed the transgression.
In 1834 and 1837 WILLIAM PATCH purchased land in New Hampshire. The
family moved to Depauville in 1844. He was a director of the National Exchange
Bank, and the incumbent of several important local offices.
In 1844 he joined the Elm Flats Settlement or Depauville Free Baptist Church.
He was a deacon and a member of the committee that was appointed to superintend
the erection of the new church.
