Herbert S. Stanford and Miss Florence C. Allingham

Watertown Daily Times Monday Afternoon April 1?, 1917 WEDDING A SURPRISE Herbert S. Stanford and Miss Florence C. Allingham, both of 332 Central Street, were married Sunday noon at the home of the bridegroom's mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Stanford, in Black River Village, Rev. Williams, of the Felts Mills Christian Church, officiating. They were attended by Mrs. Stanford and Ernest Stanford, mother and brother of the groom. Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served to 25 persons. The bride was attired in blue silk and wore a large white hat.

The wedding was a complete surprise to relatives and friends of the bride. Miss Allingham's two sisters, the Misses Gladys Allingham, a clerk for Badley & Sewall Co., and Frances B. Allingham were not informed of the marriage arrangements. They did not know this morning that the marriage ceremony had taken place and said that their sister had not consulted them in her affairs.

Miss Allingham boarded at the home of Mrs. Fatima Frost, 115 East Main Street and later with the bridegroom's sister, Mrs. W. R. Babcock, 298 East Main Street, where is met Mr. Stanford, who was also boarding there. Mr. Stanford and Miss Allingham left the Babcock residence and have since been boarding at 332 Central Street.

Miss Allingham is employed as a gauger by the Martins Munitions Corporation. She is 18 years old. Mr. Stanford is employed as a machinist by the Bagley & Sewall Co. He is 21 years old. The marriage license was secured Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Stanford and his bride will make their home in Black River. Miss Allingham formerly lived in California. She came to this city with her sisters about ten years ago, and lived with her grandmother for a time. Her parents are both dead.

Mr. Stanford was born in Black River and lived here until 18 months ago, when he came to this city to reside with his sister, Mrs. Babcock.
