1. ALVAH STEVENS was born 1798 in NY, parents unknown, but both born VT. ALVAH and family can be found in the 1840 Jefferson Co Census, again in 1850 in Pamelia 4 Corners, in 1860 Pamelia 4 Corners, in 1870 in Lorraine, having separated from his wife sometime between 1860 and 1870.
Interestingly, he can be found in Shawano, Maple Grove, Wisconsin in the 1880 census at the home of his son ORVIL B STEVENS (m LOUISE E KING b NY). Son CHARLES A STEVENS (m RACHEL C MARBLE b NY) is also in same town in Wisconsin. ALVAH later died in Kent County Michigan at the home of his son JOHN S STEVENS. ALVAH's daughter ELIZA STEVENS ARMSTRONG (my great-great-grandmother) is also in the same area - Cannon Twp. It seems old ALVAH got around quite a bit in his old age.
His obituary, Jefferson County Jounal, 24 Jan 1883: STEVENS In the town of Cannon, Kent Co., Mich., at the residence of his son, JOHN, Dec. 23 . ALVAH, aged 84 years and 9 mos. Mr. STEVENS left Watertown five years ago for the west and has many friends there and in the town of Pamelia, where he long resided. His widow is still living in Adams.
