August 15, 1872, p. 5:

In Worcester, Mass., Aug. 1, 1872, MARY JENNIE, daughter of Rev. H. D. WESTON and Mrs. CARRIE E. WESTON, age 1 month 15 days. Mrs. Weston is the daughter of MRS. SAMUEL FORSYTHE of this village.

November 14, 1872, p. 5:

On the 12th inst., by Rev. E. H. Pratt, Mr. JOHN C. SHAFER of Booneville, Ind., and Miss JANE HOWARD, of this village.

In the town of Cape Vincent at French Settlement, on the morning of the 3d inst., MRS. JOSEPH DOCTOR, age 77 years.

In Chicago, Ill, Nov. 2, 1872, Mr. CHARLES W. KEITH, age 60 years.

In Cape Vincent, Nov. 7, 1872, at the residence of his son, Peter Rector, Jr. Mr. PETER RECTOR, age 97 years. Mr. Rector was born in Montgomery Co., NY and was the son of NICHOLAS RECTOR, who was a captain in the Revolutionary army. The writer of this first saw Mr. Rector, the subject of this notice, in 1806. At that time, Mr. Rector was settled in life and had three children. In 1807 he removed to Schoharie County, and in 1819 removed with his family to Cape Vincent, where he resided until his death. He raised a family of ten children. Mr. Rector was of German parentage.


April 10, 1873, p. 5:

In Cape Vincent, on the 9th inst., SARAH, youngest daughter of GEORGE F. and SARAHETTE BARTLETT age 13 years, 1 month and 18 days. Funeral services will be held at the residence at one o'clock, Friday afternoon.

August 14, 1873, p. 5:

In Watertown on Sunday, August 10th, after a lingering illness, MRS. EMELINE A., wife of Hon. S. H. HAMMOND, age 62 years. Deceased with the mother of L. S. HAMMOND and MRS. CUYLER VAN VECHTEN of this village.

September 11, 1873, p. 5:

In the Presbyterian Church of this village on Thursday, Sept. 4th, by Rev. E. H. Pratt, JAMES E. HOWARD and MARGARET A. GILCHRIST, both of Cape Vincent.

September 25, 1873, p. 5:

Obituary-Thus has another old resident of this town passed beyond the vale, and out of our earthly sight. Mr. ZEBULON CONVERSE was born in the town of Ringe, Chesire Co., NH. He came to Cape Vincent in the summer of 1820, and first engaged in the labor of a mechanic. He soon after abandoned his trade and established a drug store, although selling some other general articles besides drugs. He was postmaster from 1860 to 1864. He united with the Presbyterian Church on the 1st day of May 1825. In Nov. 1828 he was elected an elder in the same church...During the last ten years, since the death of his wife, he had no children, he has been a pilgrim...Funeral services were held at East DeKalb and his remains were interred at Gouverneur by the side of his wife. He was a Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge of Gouverneur, which took part in the burial service. September 16.

October 23, 1873, p. 3:

At the residence of the bride's father, in Union Valley, Cortland Co., NY, Oct. 4, 1873, by Elder E. A. Poole, Mr. SACKETT HART of DeRuyter, and Miss SARAH T. BROOKS.

In this village, Oct. 21st, at the home of Mr. John Forsyth, by the Rev. E. H. Pratt, JOHN BUSH and ELIZABETH NORTH, both of Wolf Island.

At the M. E. Parsonage in this village, by Rev. A. M. Fredenburgh, on the 16th inst., Mr. JOHN H. JACKSON, of Kingston, Ont., and Miss LOUISA CARPENTER of Chaumont, NY.


February 5, 1874, p. 5:

At the Cape Vincent Hotel, in this village, by Wm. Estes, Esq., WM. HALLIDAY of Clayton, and Miss JULIA CHAVOUSTIE of Cape Vincent.

In this village, at 6 p.m. February 3, 1874, GERTRUDE, daughter of MRS. J. P. AINSWORTH, age 16 years, 7 months and 12 days. Funeral services will be held at the house, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

April 16, 1874, p. 5:

In this village, on the 14th inst., HELEN, daughter of Dr. J. CARRIER, age 52 years.

April 23, 1874, p. 5:

At the residence of Duncan A. Grant, in the city of New York on Friday, April 17, 1874, OTIS STARKEY HAMMOND, age 17 years and 6 months, son of L. S. and SARAH E. HAMMOND of this village.

In Bay City, Michigan, April 18th of pneumonia, CHARLES J. INGALLS, age 25 years, son of JOHN W. INGALLS formerly of this village.
