OBITUARY - Died, December 23d, 1879, at his late residence in Clayton, JAMES PLUMB in the 86th year of his age. He was born at Guilford, Windham Co., VT, April 2nd, 1794, and emigrated into this then new Black River County...with the view of pursuing the trade of carpenter and joiner. On March 20th, 1823, he married Miss POLLY VINCENT...the only daughter in a family of nine children and settled on the farm on which he resided up to the time of his death...

Mr. CHARLES A. BENJAMIN, one of the leading and most prominent agriculturalists of our county, died at his residence in Smithville yesterday morning. He died of heart disease and his death was sudden. He was in the barn doing his chores about 8 o'clock when he was stricken. Medical aid was summoned, but when the doctor arrived, life was extinct. Mr. Benjamin was about 60 years old and a very honorable and upright man...

Mr. O'Harra was a brother of Mrs. JOHN W. GRIFFIN of this city and formerly lived at Brownville. It will be remembered by those who ever associated with him in the army that at the beginning of the war he enlisted as a private in the 35th Regt., and served to the expiration of their term of service, being promoted to first lieutenant and afterward assisted in recruiting the 20th cavalry. In the 20th he was promoted from captain to major. He had many friends living in Watertown and in this section.
