On Wednesday, January 5th...a goodly company of relatives and neighbors assembled at the house of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. ELLIS to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their marriage. A. P. ELLIS and JOANNA S. PECK were married January 5, 1837 at what is known as the Baucus Settlement in Alexandria, by Jason Clark, in a log house at which time, there were about 50 present, and of this company but four are supposed to be living and they are in distant states, none of which were present... for nearly 36 years they have lived in Plessis...Beneath a bower, the couple stood while the Rev. M. E. Grant of Holland Patent, NY remarried them...Food was served and during this time, A. D. ELLIS of Blissfield read a poem...It was regretted that their youngest daughter, MRS. M. E. GRANT and children, and the only grandson, HILON E. MORROW, were unable to attend....(descendants will want the full column)

At Sierra Madre, Cal., Dec. 28, 1886, U. A. WRIGHT, formerly of Lewis and Jefferson Co., lately of Auburn. Many of the older citizens of Watertown will remember him as the first secretary of the Agricultural Mutual Ins. Co., when it was first organized in Evans Mills in 1851...He resided in the town of LeRay and was a farmer. For several years he was a justice of the peace in the town of LeRay. His remains were taken to Auburn for burial.

In this city, January 10, SARAH DUDLEY, widow of JOHNSON BURR, of Kingsborough, Fulton Co., age 77 years, 10 months, 2 days.

The death of ALVA J. SMITH of Ellisburg, occurred Thursday evening at his residence in the village of Ellisburg. Mr. Smith was a prominent citizen and businessman of that village, and his loss is much deplored...The funeral took place from his residence in that village Sunday.

GILBERT S. SAWENS died at his home in the city of Utica, Wednesday, at the age of 57. Mr. Sawens was a brother of Dr. WILLIS SAWENS, who carried on a drug store in this city (Watertown) some 20 years ago. He at that time managed a branch store for his brother in Antwerp. There he married Miss KATE L. NORTHRUP. A son, WILL SAWENS, was born to them; he died about three years ago. The Sawens brothers went to Utica in 1868, and carried on an extensive drug, proprietary medicine and truss business. The wife of the deceased survives him.

He was the son of Dr. S. C. KNICKERBOCKER of this city and died at his father's residence on Washington Street Sunday evening...He was born in Geneva, NY on 1 January 1860 and came to Watertown with his parents when three years of age. He was a graduate of Watertown High School in 1876 and after graduation was a reporter on several newspapers...While employed at the Utica Herald in 1884, he was taken ill with inflammation of the lungs and was compelled to resign his position as assistant local editor...The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 A.M. in Grace Church. (From another announcement on Jan. 19, p. 5: The pallbearers were: GEORGE C. SHERMAN, HUBERT TAYLOR, FREDERICK CARPENTER and FREDERICK MOORE. The remains were placed in a vault at Brookside.

We announce the sad death of ANDREW WAGONER of Philadelphia, on the 6th inst., by bleeding to death by a small artery being broken by coughing. The funeral was held at Orleans Four Corners on Sunday the 9th...Mr. Wagoner died at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 14 days. He was a resident of the town of Orleans for many years...About 9 years ago his wife died and a few years after he married a lady from Herkimer Co. and then moved to Philadelphia where he died. He leaves a wife and 7 children to survive him, three sons and four daughters of whom are: D. WAGONER, A. WAGONER of Orleans; J. WAGONER of Alexandria; MRS. A. TIMMERMAN and MRS. S. The golden wedding of MR. and MRS. FRANCIS FORBES of Chaumont was celebrated at their residence in that village, Wednesday evening, Jan. 5th. A ruse tempted the aged couple to take supper at a neighbor's while their friends to the number of about 70, took possession of their home and made ready for the proper celebration of the day. Many gifts in the precious metals were bestowed upon the aged couple. Appropriate remarks were made by Rev. Kenyon of the M. E. Church and prayer was offered by Rev. Johnson of the Presbyterian Church...

A quiet and pleasant event took place Wednesday morning at the residence of Rev. Father Glenn. It was the marriage of DWIGHT B. DEWEY, the well-known clothing merchant in the Woodruff House block, to Miss ELIZABETH BARON...after a short trip they will return and take up their residence at No. 16 Benedict Street.

At 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, there occurred at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. HORACE N. MARTIN, No. 49 State St., the marriage of their daughter, Miss NETTIE B. MARTIN to WILLIAM P. CLOUGH of Canova, Dakota. The ceremony was performed by Rev. S. A. Hayt...The groom is member of the firm of Clough & Aldrich, large lumber dealers of Canova...

Died on Point Peninsula, Jan. 24, MRS. MARIA REED MAYHEW, wife of Mr. THEODORE MAYHEW, Esq., age 46 years. Mrs. Mayhew, daughter of Mr. STEPHEN and Mrs. MARY REED, was born on Pillar Point, 1840. Her sickness was brief but distressing, being apoplexy and paralysis combined. She was a loving mother and affectionate wife...She leaves her beloved husband, a daughter of fifteen and a bright son of five years to mourn her loss.

BARNEY CURRAN died peacefully Feb. 1st. His funeral was held in the Catholic Church at Redwood on Thursday at 10 o'clock in the morning. He made the care of his aged mother his life work...the bereaved mother and family have the sincere sympathy of this community in their loss.

The remains of the widow of the late CYRUS GODFREY were interred in Plessis Cemetery, Sunday the sixth inst., Mrs. Godfrey had been an old resident of this town and was highly respected. She died at the home of her son, ORISON GODFREY, who resides in the Town of Theresa.

Mr. N. B. WILSON, who has been for several years a patient sufferer, very quietly passed away on Friday evening. His funeral services were held at the M. E. Church on Monday with Masonic rites.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning of the death of ASAHEL READ at the age of 92 years. Mr. Read was one of the earliest settlers in Jefferson Co. He was born in Herkimer Co. on May 26, 1795. His father, ROGER READ, removed to Jeff. Co., when Asahel was eleven years of age. In 1822 at the age of 28 years, he married Miss MARY BARTLETT and purchased a small farm. After years of industry he amassed a fortune and retired, removing to Watertown in 1863. In Politics he was a Republican; in religion a Presbyterian...

MRS. ANNIE E. CLYDE died at the residence of Joseph Collins on March 9th, age 41 years, 7 months, 6 days. The funeral was held at Omar on March 10th, Rev. Howard of Alexandria Bay, officiating. She was a consistent member of the Baptist Church for ten years. Mrs. Clyde has been sick for 3 years and for the past nine months has lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Collins...She was a sister of MRS. W. L. COOK of Fishers Landing and H. B. CONANT of Alexandria Bay. She also left an aged mother and little son with other friends to mourn her loss...

HAMILTON McALLISTER, a pioneer resident of this village, dropped dead at about half past ten o'clock today. He arose as usual this morning and appear to be in excellent health. He had been visiting at the farm house of C. D. Waite and while returning home he died on the way. It is supposed that he died of paralysis of the heart. The funeral will be held from his late residence on Wednesday. The deceased was 79 years of age and was well known through the county...

MR. I. L. DILLENBECK, who has lived here for several years and was the owner of the hotel, died Thursday morning age 73 years; his funeral was held at Pulaski, Saturday.

SEWARD LITTLEFIELD was married at Chestnut Ridge to Miss BUTLER last week.

We were startled Tuesday evening, March 15, to hear of the very sudden death of Miss RUTH CLARK which occurred at Adams after an illness of a few hours. Apoplexy was the cause. She leaves two sisters, who live West, and other kindred to mourn her loss. She had lived for several years with the SEWARD THOMAS family. Her funeral was largely attended Friday afternoon from the M. E. Church of this place, Rev. A. E. Corse preaching the sermon. The floral tributes were very beautiful.

Mr. Helmer had for many years been the proprietor of the hotel in that village... The deceased was 45 years of age and leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss. BENJAMIN HELMER of this city, is an uncle of the deceased. The funeral services will beheld from the residence of his father, PETER HELMER, in the town of Leray at 11 o'clock today.

The death of MRS. MARY G. JONES, a lady of advanced years, was announced Monday. Mrs. Jones was born October 9, 1797, in St. Albans, Vermont and was therefore at the time of her death nearly 90 years of age. Three years ago she removed to this city to reside with her daughters, MRS. H. F. BUCK and MRS. DR. PAMELEE. Her death resulted from old age.
