A petition to open the estate was brought by WARREN WILSON of Cape Vincent on 29 November 1853.

WILL OF HENRY BAXTER
HENRY BAXTER of the Town of Leray, Jefferson Co. named his son, DANIEL P. BAXTER. He named son, HENRY BAXTER. Daughter M. M. BAKER. Granddaughter, ELIZABETH BARRAN, daughter of my daughter BETSEY. Named his wife, MAHASABELL BAXTER and gave her most of the estate. At the decease of wife Mahasabell, he bequeathed to MAHITABLE WELLS, daughter of his wife, all his real and personal estate. Wife Mahasabell made sole executrix. Will dated 3 April 1846. /s/ Henry Baxter

NOTE: Mehitable Baxter, relict of Henry Baxter, born 1774 NY, died 20 September in 1865 at 92 years. Buried in Judd Cemetery in Cape Vincent, Jefferson Co. In 1850, Mahitabel Baxter, age 74, was living in LeRay with Mahitabel Wells, age 45, b NY. The 1850 US Mortality Schedule/Census shows Henry Baxter age 81, b Connecticut, married, died in December of 1849 of old age. Elizabeth "Barran" could be Barron
