In the matter of the estate of JOHN REED of Rodman, Jefferson Co., NY:

On 30 June 1857, LORENZO D. REED petitioned to open probate and stated that John had deceased on 2 January 1857 and left a will, and that he, Lorenzo, was a legatee in the will.

DENZEL REED, a child of the deceased of Rodman, NY, a minor having no general guardian.

ALICE REED, children of the deceased and children of CHARLES REED, deceased of Rodman, minors of whom ALBERT L. GILLET of Worth in Jefferson Co. is the general guardian.

JOHN READ named his wife, CELINDA READ. Named his son, LORENZO. Mentions children born of his first wife: son, DANIEL. Grandchildren, children of his son, CHARLES. JAMES MORSE of Rodman named executor. Will dated 21 June 1851. /s/ John Read

NOTE: The surname is spelled both as "Reed" and "Read" in the file. Although the will is not lengthy, the testimony as to John Read's competence to make a will required several depositions which increased the number of probate pages.
