In the matter of the estate of JOHN RUSSEL of Rodman, Jefferson Co., NY:
From the Court Minutes, Vol. A., p. 485:
At a Surrogate Court held at Watertown for the county of Jefferson at the Office of the Surrogate on the 13th day of September 1844. In reading and filing proof by affidavit of CYRENUS FLINT of the Town of Rodman, it appears that JOHN RUSSEL, a pensioner of the United States, died on the 11 day of June 1844 in the Town of Rodman; that the said John Russel left no widow but several children (of) him surviving. That the said pensioner deceased was at the rate of eight dollars per month. And on application of MALINDA FLINT, named in said affidavit, as one of the children of the said deceased and widow of WILLIAM FLINT, it is ordered that letters of administration be opened to her, said Malinda, and the same are issued. /s/Nathaniel Wardwell, Surrogate
NOTE: JOHN RUSSEL was born 1761 MA and died on the date listed above. He has a DAR marker and is buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Rodman. His wife was Martha Thrall. For list of children, see Pioneer John Russell Family on the Jefferson County NYGenWeb site.
ADDENDUM TO THE ESTATE OF JOHN RUSSEL, of Rodman, Jefferson Co., NY:
On 12 September 1844, CYRENUS FLINT of Rodman, Jefferson Co. stated that JOHN RUSSEL, late of Rodman, was a pensioner of the United States at the rate of $8 per month and died at Rodman on 22 June 1844. He left no widow but did leave four children: MALINDA FLINT, widow of WILLIAM A. FLINT; ORMACINDA HUNGERFORD, wife of THOMAS HUNGERFORD of Rodman; HEZEKIAH RUSSEL of Cuyahoga Co., Ohio; CLORINDA HILLS, wife of NATHANIEL HILLS of Athens, Pennsylvania. /s/ CYRENUS FLINT
