In the matter of the estate of JOSEPH MAYO of Pamelia, Jefferson Co., NY: On 21 April 1855, JOSEPH MAYO of Pamelia, petitioned to open probate.

GEORGE MAYO, all of Harrisonburgh, Louisiana, minors, having no general guardian, children of GEORGEY MAYO, deceased and grandchildren of testator
ARSENATH MAYO, of Pamelia, widow of the deceased, and who died since the death of the testator.

WILL OF JOSEPH MAYO

JOSEPH MAYO made his will at age 74. Named his wife, ASENATH, and at her decease, both real and personal property to: JOSEPH HENRY MAYO and CHARLES W. MAYO, sons of HENRY MAYO and GEORGE HENRY MAYO, son of JOSEPH MAYO, JR., to be held by them in fee and to be equally divided amongst them on the youngest of them arriving at age 21. Named son, CHARLES MAYO. Named MARY FRANCES MAYO, daughter of HENRY MAYO. Named ALMIRA ASENATH MAYO, daughter of HENRY MAYO. If his wife, Asenath, died before the youngest of his grandsons above-named, became 21 years of age, then at her decease, his son, HENRY MAYO was to take the charge of the lot called the Colson Lot. Appointed ANSEL MILLS and DAVID ALLEY of Pamelia as executors. Will dated 18 January 1848.

NOTE: Joseph Mayo owned a very sizable woodlot and left explicit instructions on the care and cutting of the wood in that lot. He set limitations on how much wood could be cut and none of the green wood until the old brush stumps etc. were completely consumed first.
