The Last Will and Testament of
CLARISSA TAYLOR,
DECEASED.
Will
In the name of God Amen I Clarissa Taylor of the town of Cham
pion in the county of Jefferson and the state of New York of the age of 75
Years and being of sound mind and memory do make publish and
Declare this my last Will and testament in manner following that
Is to say. Firstly I give and bequeath to my daughter Fanny Trowbridge
One dollar. Secondly I give and bequeath to daughter Olive Stephens one
Dollar. Third I give and bequeath to my daughter Maria Lyon one dol
lar. Fourthly I give and bequeath to my son Clinton G Taylor one dollar
and lastly I give and bequeath to my sons Alford G Taylor and Cyrus W Taylor my children all the rest residue and remainder of my
personal estate goods and chattels of whatever nature or kind so ever and
all my real estate except my bed and beding. This I will and bequeath
to my grandchildren Alford & Albert Taylor. I also will and bequeath to my daughter in law Adaline S Taylor my black Shall and
satchel and it is further my intention and will that the share of Cyrus W
Taylor also mentioned shal be held by him until his two children Alford and Albert shal arrive at the age of twenty one years when it shal
become theirs. And I doe hereby appoint my son Cyrus W Taylor
sol executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former
will by me made. In witness where of I have unto set my hand and seal

Clarissa Taylor's Estate
Order
At a surrogate's court held in and for the
County of Jefferson at the surrogate's office in
Watertown in said County on the 1st day of June 1857
Present Judge R. A. Perkins Surrogate
In the matter of proving the last Will and testament Clarissa Taylor deceased.
Be it remembered that on the 27th day March 1857 Cyrus W Taylor of Champion in said county came before said surrogate and made and filed his petition on oath stating and thereby said surrogate was satisfied that Clarissa Taylor late and inhabitant of said County owning personal estate therein had died having previously duly made and published her last will and testament disposing of said estate and therein had names the said Cyrus W Taylor the executor thereof. That the heirs and next of kin of said deceased as follows and none other others vis: Fanny Trowbridge wife of Adonis Trowbridge of Adams, and Olive Stevens wife of Alvah Stevens of Pamelia and Cyrus W Taylor the petitioner of Champion in said County of Jefferson and state of New York and Clinton G Taylor of Pleasant Ridge, Rock Island County and Alfred G Taylor of Lisbon Kendal County and Maria Lyon wife of Vanum Lyon of Morris, Grundy County Illinois children of the said deceased of full age and by said petition it was judged that a citation might issue out of and the seal of this court to be directed to the proper persons pursuant to the statute requiring them and each of them at such time and place as should be in said citation mentioned to appear and attend the probate of said will and that such further or other proceedings in the premises should be duly had as might be requisite for proving and recording said will and granting probate and letters testamentary thereof.
Thereupon said surrogate being satisfied of the truth of the matters stated and set forth in said petition did aspire a citation under his hand and seal of office bearing date the 27th day of March 1857 directed to the persons above named stating their names and places of residence respectively and that Cyrus W Taylor the executor in said Will named had applied to said surrogate to have the same proved as a will of personal estate and requiring them personally to
[Page 11 ] be and appear before said surrogate at his office in Watertown aforesaid on the 18" day of May 1857 at ten o clock in the forenoon of that day and attend probate of said Will. Thereupon process was continued until the return day there of at which time and place last mentioned appeared in court before said surrogate the said Cyrus W Taylor executor aforesaid and made and filed proof by affidavit of the due publication of said citation in the state paper according to law and of the personal service thereof on all of the said person residing in this state and the said Adonas Trowbridge also appeared and the said Cyrus W Taylor executor as aforesaid made and filed his second petition stating and thereby said surrogate was satisfied that there is one other heir of said deceased viz Albert Lawton of Auburn a grand child of said deceased and a child of Lucy E Lawton deceased who was a child of Clarissa Taylor deceased and wife of Nathan Lawton. The said Albert Lawton is a minor having no general guardian and that said petitioner was not aware when he filed his first petition that said minor or any one for him was entitled to notice. Thereupon the matter herein was adjourned to the first day of June 1857 at ten o'clock in the forenoon at the surrogates office aforesaid ………….
This order of the court adds to the Will/ Estate papers of Clarissa (Gibbs) Taylor who died 1857.
Note that the name of her son Alford/Alferd/Alfred with middle name Zena becomes Alfred G Taylor in this document. Adonas Trowbridge is spelled Adonis Trowbridge elsewhere.
