PIONEER JEREMIAH BACON FAMILY


1. JEREMIAN BACON came to the Town of LeRay from Onondaga County in 1821. He transported his household goods by means of an ox team. He cleared the land of timber and built a log house, and two years later he returned to Preble, NY where he married Miss Chloe Pickett, and he brought his bride to the log home in Jefferson County.

Jeremiah and Chloe were among the earliest settlers in the town of LeRay, and it was necessary to clear the grounds of trees and underbrush before the ground could be cultivated.
