JEFFERSON COUNTY, NEW YORK

BACON PIONEER FAMILY

1. COLBY BACON (1771-185?) first appears in Paris, N.Y. in the 1800 census for Oneida. He may have been born in CT or MA. In 1820 he was living in Ellisburg with his wife and 5 young people up to the age of 25. In 1830 he was living in Orleans, 2 homes away from Isaac Niles. Colby's name appears next to Isaac's in the March, 1833 animal markings book for ownership. We know of 3 children of Colby Bacon: Amanda was born in 1810 and married Oliver Babcock in Clayton in 1834. Silas was born in 1793, served in the War of 1812, got married and spent the rest of his life in Oswego County. Leonard was born in 1814, and married Isaac Niles' daughter Jane in Clayton in 1835. Leonard and Jane's first child was Floyd (1836-1891). Floyd may have been born in Clayton or Scriba but the 3 Bacon Siblings were in Oswego County in 1840. Colby's wife died in the 1840s. Colby was living in the home of his daughter Amanda and her family in 1850. He was dead by 1860.
