Jefferson County, NY Pioneers
PIONEER BROADBENT FAMILY
1. THOMAS BROADBENT,(son of Samuel and Sarah Whitehead Broadbent)
was born 22 October 1810 at Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England. He
came to Mass. as a boy with his family in 1817. After marriage
and establishing his family in Southbridge, MA he took several
trips by horseback to Jefferson County, NY to evaluate opportun-
ities there. In 1847 he moved the family to a house on Lodi hill,
just over the river from Dexter village in Hounsfield. He worked
in the textile mills, accumulated land in the vicinity and
eventually established the farm at the end of what is now Foster
Park Rd. on the Hounsfield side of the river. He later moved on
to Anoka County, MN but returned in his later years after his wife
died. He died 7 February 1903 at the farm in Hounsfield and was
buried in the Dexter cemetary.
He married 7 October 1832 in MA
ESTHER POND CARROLL, (daughter of Joseph and Asenath Carpenter
Carroll) who was born 4 January 1813 in or around Walpole, MA.
She died while living in Anoka County, MN on 9 August 1884.
