PIONEER CALVIN FAMILY



1. ALPHEUS REED CALVIN was born 10 Apr 1793, Clarendon, Rutland Co., VT, the son of Sanford5 CALVIN [Levi4 COLVIN, Jeremiah3, John2, John1] and Abigail CHIPMAN. His father was a Providence Co., RI, native whose parents removed to Clarendon, Rutland Co., VT, in 1774. What happened to Alpheus' father is yet unknown [last "seen" in Madison Co., NY], however, his mother, ABIGAIL CHIPMAN [16 Sep 1767 - 01 Feb 1838] is buried in Clayton Village Cemetery, Jefferson Co., NY. ALPHEUS CALVIN first appears in Jefferson County on the 1830 Census of Orleans Township. His brother, DELANO [aka DILENO] DEXTER CALVIN, had moved into the county at least ten years earlier. Two of their sisters, ELECTA ELDRIDGE CALVIN [m. ORLANDO WEAVER CUSHMAN] and LUCINA R. CALVIN [m. DAVID A. ALDRICH], also lived in Jefferson County.

Alpheus CALVIN died 16 Jun 1872, buried Clayton Village Cemetery, Jefferson Co., NY

He married 2 February 1820, probably in. Rutland Co., VT
MINERVA WEBB daughter of ISAAC WEBB and LOVICE (---) Minerva. was born 2 July 1801, Vermont; she died. 28 Sep 1888, and was buried in Clayton Village Cemetery, Jefferson County.

2 i ELIZA B. CALVIN, b. 1820 - 1821, Chittenden Co., VT or Jefferson Co., NY; d. 1867, bur. Clayton Village Cemetery, Jefferson Co., NY. ELIZA was mentally retarded and lived with her parents until she died.

3      ii LOVICE M. "VICEY" CALVIN married JOHN CAREY

4     iii DELANO CHIPMAN CALVIN, b. 03 Nov 1824, Jefferson Co., NY; d. aft. Jun 1900, prob. Manhattan,  New York Co., NY. He married (1) MARY ELIZABETH MERRILL 1850-1855, prob. in Jefferson Co., NY. He married (2) ELIZA ANN [WALL] WEAVER, bet. 1883 - 1900. No known children with either wife. DELANO CHIPMAN CALVIN served briefly as District Attorney in Jefferson County. In 1866 he moved to New York City where he attained considerable success as a lawyer and author.

3. LOVIICE M. "VICEY" CALVIN was born 19 August 1822, at Clayton, Jefferson Co., NY. She died 23 Nov 1902, Duluth, Saint Louis Co., MN.

She married abt. 1842
JOHN CAREY who was born 02 Apr 1816 in Deerfield, Oneida Co., NY and died 19 Nov 1857 in Long Point, Lake Erie [drowned].

6     i  MINERVA HARRIET CARY b. 27 Nov 1842; d. 11 May 1914, St. Paul, Ramsey Co, MN; m. JOHN VAN ALLEN 16 Mar 1864. He was b. Sep 1830, NY

7     ii  MERCELIA CAREY , b. 08 Oct 1844; d. aft. 1920; m. CALVIN McKEE 19 Jan 1866. He was b. Oct 1833, NY.

8     iii  CORNELIA CAREY, b. 12 Apr 1847; d. 08 Aug 1849.

9     iv  JOHN CALVIN CARY, b. Sep 1850; d. abt. 1907; m. LAURA E. (---) abt. 1897. She was b. Feb 1866, Canada.

10     v  CHARLES CARY, b. 30 Oct 1852; d. 25 May 1928, St Louis Co, MN; never married.

11     vi  LUCIEN BURTON CARY, b. 17 Apr 1855; d. 05 May 1939, St Louis Co, MN; m (1) MARY (---) abt. 1891; she was b. Nov 1861, WI; m (2) MARY MILDRED (---) abt. 1906; she was b. abt. 1865, Canada.

12    vii  LAURA CARY, b. 27 Sep 1857; d. aft. 1900.

5.   JULIA M. CALVIN was born October 1827 in Town of Clayton, Jefferson Co., NY. She died 17 Jun 1902 [74y, 8m, 6d] and is buried at Clayton Village Cemetery

FRANCIS BARRETT who was born between 1808 - 1810 at Dummerston, Windham Co., VT. He died 1894, and is buried at Clayton Village Cemetery,
