PIONEER CARNEGIE FAMILY



1. JAMES CARNEGIE (perhaps son of ANDREW CARNEGIE) was born about 1782 in Vermont or Massachusetts. He served in the War of 1812, enlisted as a private, 76th Regiment (Tuttle's), New York Militia. James Carnegie moved to the Town of Le Ray, Jefferson Co., NY before 1820, perhaps during the War of 1812, and resided in both Alexandria and Theresa between 1830 to 1857.

He married (1) in Whitingham, Vermont on 5 Dec. 1805 by Jabez Foster
ABIGAIL HOSLEY who was born 1784. She died 1813.

He married (2)
ELIZABETH (---) who was born 1781. She died 1825 in Plessis, Town of Alexandria.

He married (3)
PHEBE (---) who was born 1790. She died 1828.

He married (4)
SALLY (---) who was born 1788. She died 1848.

3. HIRAM CARNEGIE, (son of JAMES and ELIZABETH (---) CARNEGIE) was born 8 Feb 1818 in Alexandria, Jefferson County. He served in the Civil War, enlisting as a private of Captain John Vanderburgh's Company, 10th New York Regiment Artillery, in Town of Alexandria In November 1862 Hiram became ill and was discharged at Fort Dupont, Washington, DC on 19 January 1863. He never became well, and died on 19 Aug 1863 Alexandria Bay NY.

He married on 19 July 1839 in Town of Alexandria
LUCINDA BARRETT, (daughter of SILAS and LUCINDA (EVANS) BARRETT) who was born 1818 in the Town of LeRay, Jefferson County, and died Aug 1893 in Gananoque, Leeds Co, ON Canada.
