PIONEER DOUGLAS FAMILY



1. JOHN DOUGLAS, (Son of ALEXANDER and (---) DOUGLAS) was born at Inverness, Scotland in 1752. He came with his father to this country, and landed the day of the Boston Tea Party, 16 December 1773, and eventually settled in the town of Palatine, Montgomery Co., NY. It is said that JOHN was on Pillar Point, Town of Brownville, Jefferson Co., somewhere between 1810, and 1830. He is said to have died in Canada, but have found nothing to substantiate this.

2. ALEXANDER DOUGLAS, (son of JOHN and PATIENCE (TAYLOR) DOUGLAS) was born 1790 in Palatine, Montgomery Co., NY. In the 1820 census ALEXANDER is living in the town of Hounsfield. There is one male under 10, one male 26, and under 45, and one female 16, and under 26. So far I have not been able to track ALEXANDER, and his second wife, MARTHA. I know they were living in the town of Brownville in 1855.

He married (1)
LAURA (---), who died 28 August 1841, age 45 years 3 months, and was buried at Sherwins Bay Cemetery, Hounsfield.

3. JAMES DOUGLAS, (son of JOHN and PATIENCE (TAYLOR) DOUGLAS) was born at Palatine, Montgomery Co., NY, 13 December 1791. Shortly after the death of his first wife, James came to Jefferson County and settled in the Town of Brownville, on Pillar Point. James died on Pillar Point 10 May 1876. He was 84 years of age.

He married first in July 1815 in Montgomery County
HANNAH EDWARDS who died 3 May 1817.

Child, DOUGLAS:

16 i WILLIAM DOUGLAS

He married for his second wife sometime between December 1819 - January 1820
SUSANNAH PETIT who is said to have been the first white child born in Jefferson Co. (1801). Susannah died on Pillar Point 29 April 1880. She was 78 years of age.
