PIONEER EDMONDS FAMILY (1a)


1. JOHN EDMONDS was born 22 August 1784 at Hillsdale, Columbia, NY. He was the son of JOHN & MARGRET (---) EDMONDS. He was baptized 13 July 1785 at Nobletown by traveling minister Rev. Gideon Bostwick.

Came to Adams in 1807 and for a time worked with his brothers Samuel and Richard who were then engaged in the business of blacksmithing. Shortly thereafter left the business and took up farming on ten acres in Adams. Eventually Richard and then Samuel left the area and supposedly returned to the eastern part of NY.

1820 Federal Census information indicates that there may be two additional females in the to 10 age group at the residence. In 1840 he is shown at Lorraine, Jefferson County, NY, 1850/1860 - Lorraine, Jefferson County as a Farmer, 1870 - Adams, Jefferson, NY Farmer

He died 15 August 1872 at Adams, NY, and was buried at Adams Rural Cemetery, Adams, Jefferson, NY.

2. SARAH EDMONDS, daughter of JOHN and PHOEBE (COX) EDMONDS was born in New York State 22 March 1817. In 1820 she was in Rodman, 1830/1840 - Lorraine, Jefferson County. She died 26 March 1844 at Rodman, Jefferson County, NY and was buried at Ross Corners Cemetery.

She married 7 April 1843

3   JAMES ROY EDMONDS, son of JOHN and PHOEBE (COX) EDMONDS was born in Lorraine, Jefferson County, NY 5 April 1819. He died 24 Nov 1897 at Rodman, Jefferson County, NY and was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Rodman.

4.  RICHARD EDMONDS son of JOHN and PHOEBE (COX) EDMONDS was born in Jefferson County NY April 4, 1821. He died March 22, 1900 at Lamont, Buchanan County, IA and was buried Oakhill-Campton Cemetery, Campton.

He married 09/17/1844

Notes: Resided on the old Edmonds homestead one year then moved to Prairie Center in La Salle County, IL. Three years later, went to Aurora, IL. In July, 1855 went to Clayton County, IA.

5. CLARISSA EDMONDS, daughter of JOHN and PHOEBE (COX) EDMONDS was born in New York State in 1827. According to family information, from 1830/1840 she lived in Lorraine, Jefferson, NY. In 1850, she was in Rodman, Jefferson County, NY. They came to Clayton County and settled on present farm in spring of 1857. The farm consists of 120 acres, 100 under cultivation. In 1860 they were living in Lodomillo, Clayton County, IA and were there 1860/1870/1880. In 1900 they are found in Grant, Union, IA.

CLARISSA died in 1904, and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Jefferson, Ringgold, IA

She married
CHARLES SHERMAN BOYNTON, with whom she had six children.

7. HENRY F. EDMONDS, son of JOHN & PHOEBE (COX) EDMONDS was born 1824 in Lorraine, Jefferson County, NY. By 1850, he is listed as a farmer in Lorraine. By 1860, he has moved to Adams, and his occupation is given as pump making In 1870 he is still in Adams as a liquor agent. 1880 he is in Cokato, Wright, MN

He died in 1888.

He married about 1848, in Lorraine,
