Pioneer Anthony Flansburgh Family

1. ANTHONY FLANSBURGH was born at Schenectady, NY in 1755, and baptized at the Reformed Dutch Church there. He was the sixth son of JOSEPH VLENSBURGH, great grandson of a Dane, JAN JANSEN. JAN JANSEN, after arriving at New Amsterdam about 1678, took the name of the town from whence he came, Flensburgh. With the Dutch "van" in front of it, he became JAN JANSEN VAN FLENSBURGH, or Jan Jansen from Flensburgh. ANTHONY FLANSBURGH served four tours of duty in the Revolutionary War, from 1777 to 1782. With his wife and family, he removed to the Town of Orleans in Jefferson County in 1823. He died in 1839 and is buried in Clayton, Jefferson County, NY.

He married in 1788 at Schenectady
SUSANNA VAN ALLEN, daughter of Peter and Maria (Ellwood) Van Allen, and third cousin of Martin Van Buren.

4. PETER FLANSBURGH was born in Albany County in 1800. He arrived in Jefferson County in 1823, as did his parents, and he built a sawmill at Depauville, which he operated for a number of years. Following the death of his second wife, he removed to Kenosha, Wisconsin.

He married (1)
CATHERINE TUBOIS of Albany County.

CYNTHIA HAYES, who was born 1802 and died in 1862.

12 ii CAROLINE "Carrie" DELILAH FLANSBURGH married ISAAC EDDY SYLVESTER, son of IRA and LUCY (DAVIS) SYLVESTER

13 iii TIMOTHY FLANSBURGH married HELEN L. RICHARDSON

11. SETH ORVILLE FLANSBURGH was born in Clayton, Jefferson County, in 1835. He learned the trade of miller at Depauville and later worked at Redwood, in the Town of Alexandria, for a number of years. In the late 1880s SETH and LUCY removed to Grand Ledge, Michigan, where he farmed and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. SETH ORVILLE died in 1911 at the home of his daughter, CARRIE A., when her husband was mayor of Grand Ledge. Both SETH and LUCY are buried there.

He married in 1856
LUCY McCOMBS, who was the daughter of ANDREW and EMILY (DICKEY) McCOMBS. She died in 1898 at Grand Ledge, Michigan.
