PIONEER FRENCH FAMILY



1. JOHN FRENCH was born 25 Jan. 1766, Vermont. He died 14 Jan. 1831, and was buried at Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co. N.Y.

He married 25 Nov. ca 1787
SIEBEL ANN DEWEY who was born 17 Dec 1767 and died 5 Feb. 1841. She was buried with John.

2. EZEKIEL FRENCH (son of JOHN & SIEBEL ANN (DEWEY) FRECH) was born 12 Dec. 1788. He died 3 April 1843 at Potsdam.

He married 1 Nov. 1809
SALLY (Sarah) ELLIS, who was the daughter of Isaac & Elizabeth Chase Ellis. She was born 18 April 1791 Potsdam and died 10 June 1876, Potsdam.

15. SETH FRENCH (son of EZEKIEL & SALLY (Sarah) FRENCH) was born 2 May 1824, at Potsdam. Captain French was 37 yrs. old at the time of his enlistment in the 35th Regiment of Infantry on 3 June 1861. He enrolled at Elmira NY for a term of two years on the 11th of June 1861; he was mustered into the Unit as Assistant Surgeon. He remained with this Unit until 6 Feb 1863 and at that time he was mustered out of the service in order that he be promoted to Surgeon. At that time he was transferred to the 21st Regiment but due to the term of enlistment of this Unit ending, he was mustered out with the 21st Regiment 18 May 1863 at Buffalo NY. Dr. French and wife Harriet Guyot French and three children then moved to EauClaire, WI in 1863. The family later moved to Florida in 1869 and helped found Orange City (then known as Blue Springs) FL. He served as Volusia County State Senator, and Florida's Commissioner of Immigration, inducing settlers to come to frontier Florida. Dr. French also maintained a home in nearby Sanford, FL. He died at Sanford, FL 29 January 1896 and is buried there.

He married 10 Dec. 1850, Carthage
HARRIETT GUYOT, daughter of BAZILLE & MARIETTE F. (LeROUX) GUYOT. She was born 12 Mar 1828 at Carthage, Jefferson Co. She died 21 May 1901 at Anderson, Indiana.

21. HARRIET FRENCH (daughter of SETH & HARRIET (GUYOT) FRENCH) was born 5 Sep 1860 at Redwood, Town of Alexandria, Jefferson County and died 20 June 1929, Sanford, FL.

She married 27 Nov. 1879, Orange City FL
WILLIAM FOWLER LEAVITT (son of WILLIAM WOOLSEY & MARY JANE FOWLER LEAVITT).
