This is Jefferson County from J. H. French's 1860 Gazetteer of the
State of New York. This is the first portion. The rest will follow soon.
A menu of four pictures of Stone Mills and vicinity from the 1800's
These photographs of the hamlet of Stone Mills in the Town of Orleans
were provided to this site through the thoughtfulness of Jerry
Reed, coordinator of Lewis and Otsego Counties, but with roots in
Jefferson. They were taken around the turn of the century, as the clothes
reflect. Stone Mills is now the site of the Northern New York
Agricultural Museum, well worth visiting by anyone interested in the
previous century.
This site is also permanently accessible from the Town of Orleans page.

Note:
This project has only been made possible through the efforts of several
volunteers, directed by Shirley Farone, who has been a behind-the-scenes
participant in this website from the very beginning. The original idea
came from Sharon Patchett, who is also giving her time to the project.
Sisters Marcia Alary and Barbara Britt, both of whom have been
volunteering on other projects for the website, are also working on this,
and the newest volunteer, Gary Roe, was one of the first to get his work
in. We are grateful to each of them for making this material so easily
available.
At present, the folowing towns are available:
