Obituary
Jemima Halladay died at the home of her grandson, Charles Halladay, March 12, at the age of 94 years, 5 months, 7 days. She was born in the town of Russia, Herkimer county, in the year 1796, was married to Josiah Halladay in the year 1818 and moved the same year to Clayton, Jefferson county, then almost an unbroken wilderness. Their conveyance was an ox team and travelled by marked trees. At this time there were but two houses where the beautiful city of Watertown now stands. In passing from hence to Clayton the ox team became exhausted, and it being night - time the couple halted and stripped the bark from some trees, and setting them up endways made a covering for them during the night. During a severe thunderstorm the next day they proceeded on to their new home, which was a log hut covered with split logs. In this small room they lived with another family, the division of the house being a crack in the hewed log floor. For a long time their only window and door fastenings were blankets. Here the families lived and reared families, the men cutting away timber and improving their lands. She lived in Clayton 20 years, then moving to Harrisburg, NY., after burying her husband and being left with a family of five boys and one girl. She remained at this place 16 years and kept her little family together and worked with her hands to provide them with food. She then moved to Henderson where she lived until death called her home. She lived to bury her entire family except her son Henry, who survives her. Josiah Halladay, her husband, was a soldier in the war of 1812, being stationed at Sackets Harbor. Mrs Halladay was a woman much loved and admired by all who new her, being a humble lady of domestic habits and always found at her post of duty. She leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her loss.
4. Lewis C.2 Halladay (Josiah1) was born Abt. 1815, and died Bef. 1883. He married Emeline Payne. She was born 6 November 1809.

The Drowning at Six Town Point
The following particulars of the drowning of Levi Halliday and son are given by the correspondent of the Adams Journal:
Levi Halliday, aged about 45, and his son, aged about 12 years, were drowned in Henderson Bay, just inside the bar on Six Town Point, on Monday of this week. Mr. Halliday had been for a long time a blacksmith in Henderson Village. Last fall he purchased, of W. P. Davis, a farm lying on the large island at the end of Six Town Point and removed there with his family.
The island on which he lives and the end of the point are separated only by a bar on which the water is normally shallow. Last year there were only a few inches of water on the bar; this year, the lake being two feet or more higher than last year, the water over the bar is from two to three feet deep. People, however, cross and recross in wagons without considering it dangerous. Over the bar there frequently is a strong current settling in from the lake or settling out from the bay. The bar on the lake side is flat rock extending out many rods before reaching deep water. On the bay side it is composed of gravel and shelves off precipitously into water 10 or 20 feet deep.
On Monday, though the day was pleasant and no severe wind, there was a very strong current running over the bar into the bay. About 11 o'clock in the forenoon, Mr. Halliday with his little son started for Henderson on a buckboard wagon, and drove out into the water to cross the bar to the main shore. Shortly afterward Mrs. Halliday heard their cries for assistance, and running to the shore found them drowning in the waves, and was powerless to render any assistance. Mr. Dye, in the little steamer Bogardee, was out in about the center of the bay and looking up saw Mr. Halliday and son as they were driving across the bar. Happening to look that way a moment or two afterwards he saw they were gone, but to discover a splashing in the water; he immediately turned his boat in that direction and steamed rapidly to the spot. On his arrival he found the horse alive and swimming with the wagon attached, but no trace of the man or the boy was to be seen. Leaving the steamer, he took a rowboat which he had in tow, and attempted with it to get the horse ashore. They had gone but a few rods when the top of the wagon floated off and the wheels sank, dragging the horse after them and drowning him.
All the rest of the day and evening of Monday, a great many boats were busy searching for the bodies of the father and son, dragging with grappling irons in the water. A pail of eggs which they had on the wagon was found in the water, but the search for the bodies is as yet fruitless. Every means possible is being taken to-day, Tuesday, to recover them if possible.
The occurrence can hardly be accounted for. Mr. Halliday and son were both good swimmers. They capsized in the bay the day the VanDyne house was opened last summer, and they both were so cool and such excellent swimmers that they regained their boat in safety. Mr. Halliday may have been drowned while trying in the current to save his boy, and it is conjectured that when found their bodies will be found together. A wife and two daughters are left to mourn their sad loss. They have the sympathy of all in their affliction.

Word was received here this morning of the death of Mrs Olive A. Halladay, 84, formerly of Depauville, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ernest Karr, of Hudson, N. Y., on Sunday afternoon. Mrs Halladay had been living with her daughter for the past three years. she had been in poor health for the past several months. death was caused by the infirmities of old age.
Mrs Halladay was born in South Weare, New Hampshire, June 7, 1841, the daughter of the late Enos and Lucy Bartlett, who were early settlers in New Hampshire. She married the late Reuben Halladay, who also died five years ago. The couple moved to Depauville about 45 years ago and for many years were prominent citizens of the village.
After her husbands death, Mrs Halladay continued to live at her home in Depauville, one of the finest residences in the village. About three years ago she moved to Hudson and since that time she had made her home in that place.
For many years Mrs Halladay was an active member of the Depauville Episcopal Church. she was a member of several church societies in her younger years, doing considerable work to help build up the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs Lucy M. Karr, of Hudson; one son Harry F. Halladay of this city; a brother, Harley E. Bartlett, of New Hampshire; a niece, Mrs Emma Devendorf of Lafargeville; two grandchildren, Marion L. Karr and William B. Halladay; and the following nephews: C. B. Winslow of White Plains, Olin Winslow of Clayton, Claude F. Sargent of Syracuse, and Edison Sargent of Syracuse.
A short prayer service will be held in Hudson, Tuesday morning and the remains will be forwarded to Watertown, arriving here Tuesday night.
