PIONEER WILLIAM HART FAMILY

We have two generations of the HART family before the Jefferson County Pioneer



1. HAWKINS HART and his wife, SARAH ROYCE, of Farmington CT were the parents of THOMAS HART.

2. THOMAS HART was born 29 Sept 1714 and died 12 July 1801.

He married in 23 Mar.1742
HANNAH COE, who was born 12 April 1721 to ROBERT COE and BARBARA PARMELEE.

10    viii   JESSE bc 1784 at Bristol CT moved to Kirkland and married RUTH STEBBINS of Clinton, NY. They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio

11   ix      ABEL HART who served in the Revolutionary War and died in prison of starvation

12   x      BARBARA HART who married Z. JEROME

13   xi      BENJAMIN HART

9. AMASA HART (DAR Patriot) son of THOMAS and HANNAH HART was born 19 June 1754 and died 1794. Amasa Hart is a proven patriot and his military record is given on the Fonda list.

He married PHEBE ROBERTS who was born 1755 and died about 1794. PHEBE was the daughter of ELIAS ROBERTS and SUSANNA IVES.

Children of AMASA HART and PHOEBE ROBERTS:

15   i      SUSANNAH HART, eldest daughter, b c1775 at Bristol, CT, m SAMUEL FOOT of Clinton, NY.

16   ii     RHODA HART of Adams, NY, the second daughter, was bc 1777 at Bristol, CT and died 11 Nov 1862 at 86 yrs. Rhoda moved with her parents in 1794 to Paris, NY and there m JESSE HALE, who died 17 Aug. 1808, age 36. Rhoda and Jesse are buried in the Adams Rural Cemetery, having been residents of Adams, NY

17   iii     ABEL HART, b 5 Nov 1778 at Bristol, CT; m LOVINIA GRIDLEY

18   iv      JESSE HART b c1784 at Bristol CT moved to Kirtland, m RUTH STEBBINS of Clinton NY. They moved to Cincinnati, OH.

19   v      WILLIAM HART m DELIA ANN WILLIS

20  vi      PHEBE HART b 1790 at Bristol, CTand moved with her parents to Clinton, NY where she married about 1807 WILLIAM C. GRIDLEY, a clerk. The couple moved to Adams NY where he continued clerking, probably at the store of his brother-in-law, WILLIAM HART. 

    17. ABEL HART, eldest son was born 5 Nov 1778 at Bristol, CT; Abel died 6 April 1864 age 86.

He married in 1798
LOVINIA GRIDLEY of Paris, NY. She was born 20 Aug. 1780 at Kirkland, NY where she died 6 June 1856 age 76. Abel died 6 April 1864 age 86.

JEFFERSON COUNTY PIONEER

19. WILLIAM HART, son of AMASA HART and PHOEBE ROBERTS, was born 6 Jan 1786 probably in Clinton Co., NY. He died in November of 1833 at age 49. William Hart came to Adams in 1810. He was one of the first merchants of Adams and one of the founders of the Jefferson County Bank, which opened in 1824 at Adams. Among his pursuits were the manufacture of potash, a dry goods store and running a fairly large farm. In about 1819 William purchased from the bank, a home in Adams. Within a year of his death the property was again sold. It is not known if the house is still standing in Adams. Sons WILLIAM DWIGHT and GEORGE were premier farmers in the Adams area. They raised prime bulls and cattle.

He married On 15 Sept. 1816, at Adams, NY.
DELIA ANN WILLIS, daughter of Richard Willis and Sybil Ranney. She was born 1793 and died 19 Mar. 1861 age 67. (See Willis pioneer on this site).

31    i      JAMES MUNROE HART b 29 July 1817, d 14 Aug 1896 at 79 yrs. in Oswego, NY, bur in the Adams Rural Cemetery.

32   ii     WILLIAM DWIGHT HART b 7 June 1819 at Adams NY, d 5 Mar 1903  

33  iii      HENY HART b 1820, d 1843 at 23

34  iv      GEORGE HART bc 1824, d 28 July 1893

35  v     DELIA HART b 1828, d 21 Nov 1859 at Oswego, NY. m N. B. HUNGERFORD d in Watertown, NY at 31 years

36 vi      JOHN JAY HART b 13 March 1831
