PIONEER HATHAWAY FAMILY


1. JOHN HATHAWAY was born about 1780 at Partridgefield, Berkshire Co. MA or Berkley, Bristol Co. MA. John and Abigail were early settlers of Watertown NY. On June 6, 1809 John purchased a half acre and 18 rods on the southeast side of Court Street in Watertown. He died 1844 Watertown NY.

He married (1)
ESTHER (---), who died 1798 in Massachusetts.

He married (2) August 8, 1799
ABIGAIL MIRIAM CALHOUN, daughter of EBENEZER & DOLLY MARILLA (FOOT) CALHOUN. She was born at Washington, Litchfield Co. CT 1778, and died 1 Jan 1853. Abigail's brother Chauncey Calhoun was also an early settler of Watertown, c. 1803. Abigail joined the Watertown church in 1822.

She had a brother CHAUNCEY CALHOUN.

7. WILLIAM HATHAWAY (son of JOHN & ABIGAIL MIRIAM (CALHOUN) HATHAWAY) was born 1816 at Watertown, Jefferson Co. NY. William worked as a carpenter. This family lived on William Street in Watertown.

He married ELIZABETH OWEN(S) who was born in Scotland about 1825.

Descendants of John and Abigail are recorded in Hathaways of America, 1970 by Elizabeth Starr Versailles, pps. 61-62. Some of their descendants spell the name Hathway.
