BUEL HOUGH PIONEER FAMILY



1. EBENEZER HOUGH was born 22 January 1726 in Wallingford, New Haven, CT, son of JAMES HOUGH and SARAH MITCHELL, and died 27 October 1782. Ebenezer Hough is mentioned in a company raised by Captain John Couch in Meriden, CT in July, 1776. He is a proven DAR Patriot.

He married (1) on 29 October 1746 at Killingworth
LYDIA BUELL, daughter of SAMUEL BUELL and ABIGAIL CHITTENDON, who were married on 3 May 1711 in Killingworth. LYDIA was born 27 Oct. 1722 in Killingworth, Middlesex, CT, and died 20 July 1757 in Wallingford, New Haven, CT.

EBENEZER married (2) on 17 November 1757 in Wallingford, CT.
ABIGAIL BACON PLUMB, a widow, having married first JOSEPH PLUMB.

2. BUEL HOUGH, the son of EBENEZER HOUGH and LYDIA BUELLof Litchfield, CT, was born 25 March 1748 in New London, CT. was baptized on 27 March 1748 by the Rev. T. Hall, at the 1st Congregational Church in Meriden, New Haven, CT. It is claimed that BUEL HOUGH died in Jefferson County, NY, Alexandria Township, in 1835; however, there is no further information.

He married on 5 September 1770 at Roxbury, CT.
ELIZABETH TORRANCE, who was born 12 June 1748 in Woodbury, Litchfield, CT. She was a daughter of Samuel Torrence and Jemima Parke. Samuel Torrence came to America from Ireland with his father, Albert, in about 1740. Samuel married Jemima Parke in July 1741. Samuel went to Woodbury, CT. and bought a few acres in 1747, that included a dwelling. He died 14 January 1788 in Woodbury, CT and Buel Hough, as his son-in-law, was asked to administer the estate as Jemima refused to do so. Buel was appointed administrator to the estate on 12 February 1788. As administrator of Samuel's estate, Buel deeded the homestead, subject to dower rights to Samuel Torrance, brother of Elizabeth.

It is recorded in the History of Woodbury that one Samuel Torrence served as a Captain in the Revolutionary War.

20         x        ASEL/ASAHEL HOUGH born 12 August 1792 Roxbury – married Susannah Carpenter Russel, daughter of Joseph and Polly Russel; resided Alexandria Bay, NY.

21         xi        ALVA HOUGH born 1794
