PIONEER INGERSON FAMILY



1. JOHN INGERSON was born about 1786, in Westchester County, New York, and died 29 July 1858 in the Town of LeRay, Jefferson County, New York. , John was one of at least eleven children born to Jonathan Ingerson/Ingersol and his wife Abigail, last name unknown. John moved to Jefferson County about 1811 where he worked as a farmer. His brothers Ezra, Isaac, and Jonathan Jr., and his sisters and brothers-in-law Abigail Scofield and her husband Elisha Scofield and Phoebe Clark and her husband Benson Clark also arrived in Jefferson County about the same time. During the War of 1812 John served as a Private under the command of Captain John Hoover in Colonel Calvin Britain's Regiment of the New York Militia. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Evans Mills Station, Black River Congregation, at the time of his death.

He married about 1807-1808, probably in Saratoga County, New York
RACHEL, last name unknown. RACHEL was born about 1790 in Pennsylvania and died 3 June 1853 in the Town of LeRay, Jefferson County, New York.

JOHN INGERSON & RACHEL were parents of the following nine children, the first born in Saratoga County, the rest born in Jefferson County:

2 i. JESSE INGERSON, born 5 May 1809, died 2 March 1875 in Sycamore, Wyandot County, Ohio. He married about 1837-1839, in Jefferson County, Caroline E Palmer.

3 ii. JAMES INGERSON, born about 1810, died 16 April 1880 in Jefferson County New York. He married about 1838-1839, in Jefferson County, Nancy McKenna.

4 iii. THOMAS INGERSON, born about 1813, died in 1893 in Sycamore, Wyandot County, Ohio. He married (1) about 1840-1841, in Jefferson County, Tacy Ballou (2) about 1853-1855, in Jefferson County, Theresa, last name unknown.

5 iv. ALVIN C. INGERSON born about 1 May 1815, died 12 July 1857, in Sycamore, Wyandot County, Ohio. He married 11 September 1836, in Crawford County, Ohio, Thersa Ann Palmer

6 v. HANNAH INGERSON, born about 1818, date and place of death unknown. Possibly married about 1841-1842.

7 vi. ELIZABETH INGERSON, born about 1820, died unmarried 1 December 1903, in Sycamore, Wyandot County, Ohio.

8 vii. ABIGAIL INGERSON, born about 1825, died April 1886 in Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin. She married (1) 9 February 1851, in Wyandot County, Leonard G. Mc Cauley, (2) 25 April 1869, in Greenwood, Wisconsin, William Shreve.

9 viii. ANDREW INGERSON, born 10 April 1827, died 29 November 1875 in Sycamore, Wyandot County, Ohio. He married 28 February 1856, in Wyandot County Ohio, Eliza Jane Mc Cauley.

10 ix. MARY JANE INGERSON, born about 21 August 1831, died 18 January 1892 in Sycamore, Wyandot County, Ohio. She married 11 November 1871, in Vernon County, Wisconsin, Albert Boehm.

1. Jonathan Ingerson Jr., was born about 1760-1765 in Westchester County, New York and died between 1835 and 1840 in Jefferson County, New York. He married Abigail, last name unknown, who was probably born about 1767 in Massachusetts. Jonathan was one of eleven children of Jonathan Ingerson/Ingersol and his wife Abigail, last name unknown. Jonathan Jr. moved to Jefferson County, New York prior to 1815. On 6 September 1815, he purchased about 97 acres of land in Great Lot 4 of Macomb's Purchase from James LeRay de Chaumont. In 1820 he was enumerated in the Federal Census as a resident of the town of LeRay.

1. Isaac Ingerson was born in April 1778 in Westchester County, New York and died 12 August 1852 in Brownville, Jefferson County, New York. He married Huldah, last name unknown, who was born in May 1782 and died 22 August 1840. Isaac was the son of Jonathan Ingerson/Ingersol and his wife Abigail, last name unknown. In 1808, Isaac purchased about 100 acres of land in Great Lot 4 of Macomb's Purchase from James LeRay du Chaumont. Isaac's purchase is the earliest recorded land transaction recorded for the Ingerson family in Jefferson County. The area where Isaac first settled was referred to as "Ingerson's Corners" and was initially the intended site for a village. He served as trustee for the Union Library of LeRay in August of 1810.

1. Ezra Ingerson was born in February 1780 in Westchester County, New York and died 10 November 1868 in the Town of Cape Vincent, Jefferson County, New York. He married in New York, probably 1800-1810, Rebecca, last name unknown. Ezra was the son of Jonathan Ingerson/Ingersol and his wife Abigail. Ezra moved to Jefferson County sometime prior to 1807, when he was first listed as a member of Jefferson County Military Regiments. In 1807 he was a Lieutenant in the Regiment of Lt. Col. Abijah Putnam. He remained a Lieutenant through 1809, when he was listed as an officer in the Regiment of Lt. Col. Jacob Brown. He was later promoted to Captain, and continued serving in the Regiment of Lt. Col. Jacob Brown. During the War of 1812 he was listed as a resident of the Village of Lyme. In 1810 Ezra purchased property in Great Lot 4 of Macomb's Purchase from James LeRay deChaumont.
