ORRIN R. EARL was born in Jefferson County, NY on 2 November 1812, the son of PARDNER EARL and NANCY SHERMAN. PARDNER EARL was born in Rhode Island and died in Jefferson County at 62 years. NANCY SHERMAN died at age 50; PARDNER EARL was a soldier in the War of 1812 and a prominent farmer and held other positions in the community. PARDNER EARL'Ss father was STEPHEN EARL of Rhode Island who died in Saratoga County at 78 years. ORRIN EARL was educated at Belleville, Jefferson Co. and began farming in 1846. In 1844 ORRIN married JENETTE SALISBURY, daughter of NATHAN SALISBURY; she died 8 March 1886.

ORSON H. BROWN was born in Jefferson County, NY on 23 September 1816. His father was ROSWELL BROWN of Stonington CT, and his mother was ELECTA HERRICK, also of Connecticut. When ORSON was eleven years old the family moved to Oswego County (1827). ROSWELL BROWN died in Oswego County at 76 years and ELECTA died at 84. In 1838 ORSON married JANE WEED, daughter of WILLIAM WEED of Richland, where he died in 1849 at age 62. WILLIAM WEED was a native of Vermont and cousin of THURLOW WEED, the celebrated journalist and politician.

MERRICK STOWELL, county judge of Oswego County, was born in Scriba on 3 October 1838. His father was SHUBAEL W. STOWELL, a native of Jefferson County, NY. Judge STOWELL married in 1863 MELINDA W. EVERTS of Mexico, NY daughter of FREDERICK EVERTS.

DON A. KING was the son of HENRY and BETSEY (ALLEN) KING, and was born in Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co., NY on 27 March 1820. His mother, BETSEY, was a daughter of JOSEPH ALLEN, esq., the first settler at Bear Creek (later Pierrepont Manor). HENRY KING came from Southampton, MA in 1806. In 1848 DON KING married MARY BAKER, daughter of THOMAS C. BAKER of Pulaski.

DANFORTH E. AINSWORTH was born in Clayton, Jefferson Co., NY on 29 Nov. 1848 and was an attorney and counselor-at-law, having been admitted to the bar in 1873. In 1874 he married a daughter of NELSON B. PORTER of Pulaski, NY.

GILBERT L. CROSS was born 9 November 1850 in Pulaski, NY, son of CHARLES H., who was born in New England and died in Pulaski at 75. GILBERT L. married SOPHIA KNAPP on 14 March 1871, daughter of ARVILLE and LOVICA KNAPP of Jefferson County. He died on 3 January 1890 at Pulaski. SOPHIA, his widow, was born in Jefferson County NY on 8 January 1853; her grandfather was HENRY KNAPP of Vermont who died in Jefferson County at age 88. Her father, ARVILLE, was born in Jefferson County and died in Pulaski at 61. ARVILLE married LOVICA SHELDON, who died in Pulaski at 66 years. Their only child was SOPHIA (Mrs. CROSS) who occupied their property in Pulaski.

GEORGE FREMONT CHAMBERLAIN, son of GEORGE and HARRIET CHAMBERLAIN, was born in Oswego County on 12 June 1861. His grandfather, BENJAMIN, was born in Massachusetts and died in Jefferson County NY. His father, GEORGE, was born in Massachusetts and died in Oswego County at 52 years and his mother, HARRIET, was born in Jefferson County and died in Oswego County at 50. GEORGE FREMONT married IRENE SHARP in August of 1890, a native of Richland and daughter of NORMAN SHARP.

DAVID S. JONES was born in Rodman, Jefferson County NY on 20 June 1822, the son of DAVID and POLLY JONES. DAVID JONES was originally from Wales and left the English army to come to the United States. He was a shoemaker. He married POLLY RODMAN, a widow with one child.

STEWART I. KIBLIN was born in Jefferson County NY on 12 May 1855, a grandson of JOHN KIBLIN who died in Jefferson County at 70 years. STEWART'S father, STILLMAN KIBLIN, was born in Vermont and came to New York State at six years and died in Jefferson County at 89 years. His wife was ELIZA. JOHN KIBLIN was a soldier in the War of 1812. On 15 January 1870, STEWART married VELONA FITCH, daughter of GILBERT and EUNICE FITCH of Sandy Creek, NY.

JOHN K. LYNCH was born in Jefferson Co., NY on 11 November 1844, son of MATTHEW LYNCH, a native of Ireland. MATTHEW died in Oswego at 56 years and his wife, HANNAH KENNEDY, also a native of Ireland, died there at 82 years. On 6 January 1870 JOHN married ELLEN WYNNE, daughter of ROBERT and ANN (HARTY) WYNNE of Oswego, NY. (Transcriber's note: this family came probably from the Limerick, Ireland area as the great-grandfather commanded a company as captain in the Serspill Army during the siege of Limerick.)

DAVID S. MINCKLER was born in Richland in 1840 and in 1862 married ELIZABETH MARKHAM, a native of Jefferson Co., NY., who moved to Oswego Co. when she was four. Her parents were WILLIAM and BEULAH (TYLER) MARKHAM.

D. C. MONROE was a native of Jefferson County, NY, born there 6 November 1855, son of HARRY and MARIUM (WILCOX) MONROE, both natives of Jefferson County. The couple moved to Richland, Oswego Co., in 1862. HARRY MONROE died there in 1875 at 76 and the widow lived with her son, D. C. On 28 June 1876, D. C. MONROE married MINA A. WOOD, also a native of Jefferson County, and daughter of JOHN WOOD of Jefferson.

GEORGE DUANE was born in Boylston in 1866, son of GODFREY DUANE, a native of Jefferson County, born there in 1827. GODFREY lived in Dexter and Brownville until he was 25 and then came to Boylston where he died in 1888. GEORGE'S mother was OLIVE DENON, a native of Lower Canada. GEORGE married ADA LOUISE RIDER, daughter of DAVID RIDER of Mexico.

CHARLES F. DYER was born in Rodman, Jefferson County on 28 July 1857, grandson of JOHN DYER of New England who died in New York State at age 30, and who was a son of PETER DYER. PETER was born in Otsego County and married ARVILLA DYER of Massachusetts; she died in Jefferson County at 69 years. CHARLES F. DYER married on 21 June 1883 to CARRIE C. DEVENDORF, daughter of SOLOMON and MARY (BASSETT) DEVENDORF of Adams Centre, NY.

EDMUND K. EDDY was born in Jefferson County NY on 8 June 1849. His grandfather, ENOCH EDDY, was born in Vermont and died in Jefferson Co., NY in 1860. His father, also named ENOCH EDDY, was born in Jefferson County in 1820 and died in 1874; his wife, AMANDA died in 1865. On 22 September 1869, EDMOND married ABBIE PENNELL of Jefferson County. She was the daughter of JOHNohn and ABBIE PENNELL of Jefferson County who migrated from Vermont to Jefferson County early. Grandfather PENNELL was one of the first settlers in Jefferson County. EDMUND EDDY left Jefferson County in March 1894, having purchased a farm in Richland, Oswego Co., NY.

DeALBA EARL was born in Jefferson Co., NY on 24 October 1841, a grandson of JAMES EARL who was born in New England and who died in Jefferson County at 93. ELI EARL, DeALBA'S father, married HAHHAH WELLS. The WELLS grandfather was in the Revolution and settled in Canada where he remained until the War of 1812 when he and his sons escaped to the United States. In 1862 DeALBA married LUCINDA BISSELL of Jefferson County who died in 1866. In 1867 he married ELLEN C. ROWEN, daughter of ABRAHAM ROWEN of Ogdensburg, NY.

LEROY R. FOX was born in Jefferson County, NY on 6 October 1837. His grandfather, ELIJAH FOX, a native of Vermont, died in Jefferson County NY at 86 years. LEROY'S father, also named ELIJAH, was born in Vermont and died in Jefferson County at 69 years; he married ELIZA FARRELL of Lewis County. LEROY FOX was educated in Jefferson County and began as a farmer. He ran a store at Pierrepont Manor for three years, and then farmed for ten years. He opened a meat market at Mannsville and kept a grocery at Brownsville. He moved to Sandy Creek and bought a grocery business. On 1 January 1861 he married ELIZABETH H. LORAINE, daughter of WILLIAM L. . and ELIZABETH (SMITH) LORAINE.

GUSTAVUS WOLCOTT of Holland ancestry, was born in Jefferson Co. NY on 11 April 1833. His father, LAWRENCE, was born in Dutchess County and died in Jefferson County at 60 years. His wife, CELINDA HUGHES, was born in Connecticut and died in Oswego County at 78 years. The grandfather was in the Revolutionary War. In 1854, GUSTAVUS married MARTHA HINSMAN of Oswego County, daughter of HENRY and URSULA (FOX) HINSMAN. After MARTHA'S death, GUSTAVAUS married second on 13 March 1894 LAURA HOVENS, daughter of WILLIAM and BETSEY (BURT) HOVENS of Oswego County. She was a widow with two children.

RICHARD WINNER was born in Jefferson County NY on 15 October 1835, grandson of CHARLES WINNER, who died in Buffalo NY at 80 years. RICHARD'S father was THOMAS WINNER, born in New Jersey and died at 77 years. THOMAS WINNER married ANNIE ANTHONY of Vemont who died at 81 years. THOMAS WINNER was a Quaker. RICHARD was educated in Jefferson County and served in the Civil War. In 1855 he married SARAH PETRIE of Jefferson Co., whose parents were JAMES and NANCY (WALRATH) PETRIE. SARAH died in 1886.

EDWARD WILLIAMS was born in Jefferson Co., on 20 October 1847, grandson of DAVID WILLIAMS and son of DANIEL and ELIZA (VanAUKEN) WILLIAMS. DANIEL was born in Herkimer county and died in Oswego Co. at 68 years, his wife survived him. EDWARD was educated at Ellisburg Academy and farmed until he was 23. In 1863 he opened a small mercantile business in Sandy Creek which was extremely successful. On 30 August 1872 he married J. HADLEY, daughter of JASON HADLEY.

WILLIAM H. PLACE was born in Jefferson Co., NY on 11 September 1857, son of RICHARD and ROSALTHA PLACE. RICHARD PLACE was born in Jefferson County in 1834 and was a member of the NY State militia. WILLIAM H. was schooled in Jefferson County and farmed until February 1894, when he bought the Ontario House, a leading hotel at Port Ontario; he moved his family to that location. In 1879 he married ANNIE CHOWGO, daughter of WILLIAM and NANCY CHOWGO of Oswego County. WILLIAM PLACE, father of RICHARD, was a native of Canada.

WILLIS E. PURDY was born in Jefferson Co., NY on 15 August 1860, son of WILLIAM PURDY and CLEANTHA CASTER. The grandfather, JAMES PURDY, was born in NY and died in Jefferson County at over 80 years. In 1881, WILLIS married JENNIE HOLLIS of Orwell, daughter of WILLIAM and JOANNA HOLLIS. Two of JENNIE HOLLIS'S brothers served in the Civil War—MALCOM and HENRY.

EDWARD PERO, of French ancestry, was born in Jefferson County on 24 April 1849, son of EDWARD PERO who was born in Montreal. His mother was SOPHIA KEILY who was born in NY and who died in Oswego at 63 years. EDWARD opened the Pero House in Oswego in 1884, a very grand hotel. In 1874 EDWARD married ADELINE CAYOR of Oswego.

ORLO S. POTTER was born in Sandy Creek on 7 November 1854, son of JUDSON W. POTTER, who was a native of Jefferson County NY. JUDSON married BETSEY SCRIPTERL of Oswego County. On 17 Nov. 1875, ORLO married HATTIE M. POND, daughter of BENJAMIN and JANE (WARREN) POND of Massachusetts.
