From the County History of Saratoga Co NY

MERRILL, Henry W. Merrrill was born in Jefferson Co NY on 10 Sept 1810. His father, Nathan Merrill, was a native of E. Hartford CT and married in Vermont; he then moved to Jefferson Co in 1809 where Henry was born the following year. His parents soon removed to Bergen, Genesee Co NY. Henry pursued the study of law and teaching; in 1840 he was admitted to practice as an attorney; in 1841 he moved to Saratoga Co. In 1846 Henry married Valeria S. George, daughter of Jared George of Waterbury, VT
Henry died in Saratoga Co on 11 Feb 1891; Valeria died 18 Feb. 1895.

HUBBARD, Abner, military information: enlisted in 1775 as a private in Capt. Warham Park's MA company, Col. William Shepherd's regiment. Engaged in battles of Trenton, Princeton, Monmouth and Stillwater. In 1818 he was placed on the pension roll of Jefferson Co NY. Additional service mentioned. Abner Hubbard was born 1759 and died 1820 in Somerset NY. He married in 1784 to Catherine Webster; they had one son, Hugh Henderon, who married Abigail Irene Jones; and one daughter (1791-1857) who married in 1809 to John W. McNitt.

From the County History of Hamilton Co NY:

BOH, Derick William was born 10 April 1868 in New York, NY; he died 17 August 1944 in Enumclaw, Pierce, WA. He married 1) on 8 August 1888 in Orleans, Jefferson Co., NY to Hattie Izora Timmerman. He married 2) on 26 August 1930 to Flora Belle Magnuson Buchanan.

SHELDON, Ada G. was born in Adams, Jefferson Co, NY on 23 Dec. 1909 and died 2 Dec 1978 in Hamilton Co., NY. She married Paul Sheldon who survived her in Glens Falls, NY.

From Hamilton Co Deeds, Book 44, pg 144, Indenture made 21 June 1906:

Sophia Foote of Watertown, Jefferson Co., Christina Maxins of Watertown, August Bouruin, bachelor, of Croghan, Lewis Co., Loise Becraft of Utica, Oneida Co., George Becraft and Addie Becraft, his wife, of Utica, Frank F. Becraft and Emma Becraft, his wife, of Utica, and Louis H. Becraft & Estella A. Becraft of Ogden, Utah---TO:

John Schriner of Morehouse; in consideration of the sum of $700 all that certain undivided ½ interest which Francis Bourquin had at the time of his death...In the township of Morehouse...consisting of about 250 acres on Lot #11 of the Maxwell Tract which was conveyed to Adolphe Raux by Charles J. F. Bourquin by deed dated 30 October 1859 and recorded in Hamilton Co., clerk 21 June 1859 in Book 6 on page 23. And also all that undivided ½ interest which the said Francis Bourquin, deceased had in all that certain piece of land in the town of Morehouse consisting of nearly 25 acres...the SW corner of Lot #11 conveyed to Adolphe Raux by the Comptroller of the State of New York.

Field Notes of Melvin Lethbridge, Hamilton Co NY:

David Isdell of Scotland, came to Wells, Fulton Co NY, from what was then Jefferson County, NY, from a settlement of Scotch and French families near the present city of Watertown, NY. He was a Revolutionary War veteran. He built his house at Wells between 1775 and 1785.

BETTS, Charles G., age 36 M, farmer, b Jefferson Co NY; Samantha, age 30, f, b Cayuga Co NY

SMITH, Benjamin, age 60, M, Potter, b CT; Eleanor E. age 34 b Jefferson Co NY

From Personal Briefs of Cincinnatus, Cortland Co NY:

CARRUTH, William S., was born in Jefferson Co NY on 23 March 1823; settled in Cincinnatus in 1858; was a dental surgeon and held various public offices. His first wife was Catharine E. Huntington, whom he married in Norwich NY on 7 Nov 1844 and who died in 1868. He married 2) Amelia A. Brooks, daughter of Luther Brooks, on 6 Feb 1869 in Norwich, NY. His parents were William and Eleanor (Patterson) Carruth; William died in 1849 and Eleanor on 19 March 1859. Dr. Carruth began his dental practice in Owego NY in 1857 and moved the following year to Cincinnatus.

CHITTENDEN, Giles, was born in New Milford CT in 1800 and settled in Cortland Co in 1824; he served as supervisor for several terms and justice of the peace. His first wife was Samantha McWhorter, who was born in Cincinnatus and died in 1838 leaving a child. He married 2) Mary Ann McWhorter, who died 21 June 1846, leaving a child. He married 3) Mrs. Olivia Munson who was born in Jefferson County in 1810. They were married in 1848.

PAYNE, Barney W., was born in Georgetown NY in 1812, and moved to Hamilton Co NY in the same year. He was in the dry goods trade for a number of years prior to 1844 and he then removed to Jefferson Co NY and farmed and continued his dry goods trade, as well as serving as justice of the peace until 1851. He then removed to Homer NY and engaged in the manufacture of cotton cloth. His wife was Lucy A. Bicknell, born at Marblehead, MA whom he married in 1841.
