PIONEER PHILLIPS FAMILY



1. SILAS PHILLIPS (son of EBENEZER & RACHEL (GALE) PHILLIPS III) was born 27 Oct 1775 at Sutton/Millbury Worcester Co. MA. A farmer, he settled in Rutland, Jefferson Co, N.Y. in the spring of 1805. He was among the early settlers of Jefferson Co. He was collector of taxes in Rutland for eighteen years, and the people of the town expressed their confidence by electing him to other positions of honor and trust.

"For many years--he was a worthy member of the M. E. Church and, at the time of his death showed strong evidence that he was prepared for a bright and happy entrance into the spirit world." He died 29 Aug 1850 at age 75.

He married probably at Ward (marriage intentions posted 1799 January 12 Sutton, MA)
LUCRETIA SCOTT of Ward (now Auburn) area of MA. She died May 1 1852 aged 76.
