PIONEER RICE FAMILY

1. FRANKLIN A. RICE was born in Guilford, VT, on November 12, 1812. Franklin, Amanda, and their daughter Theodora were living together in the 1855 census of Ellisburgh, NY.

Franklin died December 20, 1888 in Thomas Settlement, NY. A death notice appeared on page 4 of the December 25, 1888 issue of the Jefferson County Journal. In a will made February 2, 1882, Franklin left all his real and personal estate to his wife Amanda, who was the executrix of his will. The probate of the will lists as next of kin his widow Amanda, his children Franklin M and Theodora, and the children of his deceased daughter Armida Wilcox (Rolla Wilcox, Ada Woodward, Franklin Wilcox, and Etta Hughes).

In the 1890 Business Directory of Jefferson County, Franklin A's son Franklin M is listed as a farmer of 6 acres and proprietor of 'Rice Mineral Wells' in Belleville, NY. Franklin M served in Company C of the 94th NY Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War.

He married about 1834,
AMANDA HOISINGTON, daughter of GROUT and ARMIDA (HIBBARD) HOISINGTON. She was born in 1816. AMANDA died in 1900, and she was buried next to her husband in the Evergreen Cemetery, Henderson, NY.
