1. DANIEL SMITH, later known as DEACON DANIEL was a son of SAMUEL and ABIGAIL (WRIGHT) SMITH of Columbia Co, NY. SAMUEL, the father of DANIEL, is buried in Henderson, NY in the Clark - Fales cemetery, across the road from the farm of his son SYLVESTER SMITH .
DANIEL and SUSAN came early to Jefferson County, before 1802 and settled first in the Town of Houndsfield, and according to a SMITH descendent DANIEL had a sawmill at Camps Mills. According to the same decendent the home of DANIEL and SUSAN in Sacketts Harbor itself, was used as a hospital during the War of 1812. DANIEL and SUSANwere the parents of 18 children, 11 of whom survived and most but not all of them, left decendents.
DANIEL married
SUSAN HOLMES who was born about 1786, in Chesterfield, NH and died in 1864 at Zoar, Town of Rodman. The parents of SUSAN were THOMAS HPLMES II & TAMAR Harris. SUSAN'S immigrant ancestor was DAVID HOLMES, who was the progenitor of OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, sr & jr. C.W. Bowen's "Genealogies of Woodstock, CT familes contain much information on this family.

JOHN BEARDSLEY BUCKLIN, the son of ALDEN BUCKLIN sr and his 1st wife MERCY KETCHUM. ALDEN was born in 1780 in Coventry, RI son of JOHN BUCKLIN and LEAH SCOTT. MERCY'S real parents are a source of contention but I belive she is a decendent of the KETCHAM / KETCHUM family that migrated from Long Island to Herkimer Co., NY. It has been stated that she was a daughter of Rev. MILES KETCHUM, but no definitive research has been completed. ALDEN BUCKLIN sr is found in the history of Philadelphia, NY where he was a Town Supervisor in 1820.
